HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4594---------------------------------------·--- . . • • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 4594 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING SCHEDULE G-1 (GAS RATES) OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO UTILITIES RATES AND CHARGES WHEREAS, recently the California Public Utilities Commission has heard and granted several wholesale gas rate inc~eases to Pacific Gas & Electric Company, as "offsets" and "tracking," and WHEREAS, said offsets include fluctuations in the cost of gas to Pacific Gas & Electric Company from certain producing companies, tax law changes, exchange rate changes and similar items affecting the cost of gas to Pacific Gas & Electric Canpany , and WHEREAS, in addition to offsets, other increases, commonly known as ''tracking," are authorized to be effective in the future, when and if the Federal Power Commission grants requested rate increases to gas producers, and WHEREAS, Pacific Gas & Electric Company has received authority to raise wholesale gas rates for offsets and tracking on extremely short notice, and WHEREAS, further applications are pending, or expected to be filed, and WHEREAS, it is des~rable for the City of Palo Alto ·to· adjust its gas rates promptly upon commencement of -~, increase from Pacific Gas & Electric Company in order to avoid loss of revenue; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto RESOLVES as follows: SECTION l. until December 31, 1973, the City Manager is hereby authorized to adjust the gas rates of the City of Palo Alto contained on Schedule G-l of the City of Palo Alto Utilities Rates and Charges, to substantially conform but not to exceed, those rates contained on Pacific Gas & Electr!~_r.ompany Gene:r3.l Service Rate G-2, applicable to the East Bay, Peninsula-San Jose -1- • and Sacramento qeo9raphical areas. The effective date of said adjustments to Schedule G-1 shall be the same date on which the wholesale rate increases from Pacific Gas & Electric Company become effective for the City. SECTION 2. Said rate adjustments may be made by the City Manager to conform with offset and tracking increases granted, previously granted, or which may be granted and placed into effect during said period and shall be limited to a maximum of ten percent (10%) over the existing rates currently contained in Schedule G~l of the Palo Alto Utilities Rates and Charges. This resolution shall not affect any increase granted to Pacific Gas & Electric Company in its rate of return or in rates and charges to produce its existing authorized rate of return, other than as "offset" or "tracking" increases. The City Manaqer shall report any change in qas rates authorized by this resolution to the·City Council as soon aa practicable.
