HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4562J • • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 4562 - RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO CALLING A SPECIAL REFERE;NDUM ELECTION FOR JUNE 6, 1972 AND REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLAru\ TO CONSOLIDATE SAID SPECIAL ELECTION WITH THE DIRECT PRIMARY ELECTION WHEREAS, on December 21, 1971, and December 22, 1971, a petition for referendum was filed with the City Clerk re- questinq that Ordinance No. 2637, changing the zoning of certain property on El Camino Real known as the Old Corpora- tion Yard from P-F to P-C (hotel complex and supporting facilities), be repealed in its entirety or be submitted to a vote of the eJ.e~'cor.s as required by Section 3 of Article VI of the Charter, and WHEREAS, said petition contains valid signatures in ex- cess of the requirement of 1,646 signatures set forth in Section 3 of Article VI of the Charter, NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. A special referendum election is hereby called, to be held in the City of Palo Alto on Tuesday, June 6, 1972, at which elec.tion_the following proposition shall be . - submitted to the electorate of said city, to wit: Proposition K Shall Ordinance~ No. 2637 of the Council of the City of Palo Alto, changing the zoning of certain proper- ty on El Camino Real known as the Old Corporation Yard from P-F to P-C for development as a hotel com- plex and supporting facilities, be approved? For the ordinance Against the ordinance SECTION 2. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara is hereby requested to order the consolidation of -1 - ,,, • • said special referendwn election with the State of California direct primary election to be held on June 6, 1972, insofar as the City of Palo Alto is concerned and to provide further that within the territory affected by said order of consolidation, to wit: the City of Palo Alto, the election precincts, poll- ing places and voting booths shall be the same and there shall be only one set of election officers in each of said precincts and only one form of ballot shall be used. SECTION 3. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara is hereby further authorized to canvass the re- turns of said election with respect to the City of Palo Alto proposition and to certify such canvass of the votes cast to this Council. SECTION 4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to cause notice of said election to be published once in the PALO ALTO TIMES, a newspaper of general circulation within the City of Palo Alto, and all editions thereof during the day of publica- tion, said notice to be published in said newspaper not earlier than the· 7Sth day nor later than the 54th day before said election. The City Clerk shall publish all such other notices and do all such other things as may be required to submit said proposition to s~id electors at said·election. SECTION 5. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and dir- ected to certify to the adoption of this resolution and to sub~~t a copy thereof so certified to the Board of Supervisors of the county of Santa Clara and to the Registrar of Voters of the County of Santa Claza.
