RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
URGING THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
TO LEVY A 1/4 OF l PERCENT SALES TAX FOR TRANSIT
PURPOSES AND TO ESTABLISH A TRANSPORTATION FUND
WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Califr.rnia has passed
legislation which would enable the counties of the State to levy
a one-fourth of one percent sales tax, the proceeds of which
would be placed in a County Transportation Fund for mass trans-
portation purposes; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Palo Alto and of Santa Clara County
will benefit from the establishment of a County-wide transit
district to be supported by the revenues generated by the one-
fourth of one percent sales tax and disbursed-from-said Trans-
portation Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. That the Council urges the Board of supervisors
of the County of Santa Clara to establish and levy a sales t~x of
1/4 of l percent, as permitted by state 1aw.
SECTION 2. That the Board of Supervisors establish a Trans-
portat!9n Fund to receive receipts from said 1/4 of 1 percent sales
tax, said funds to be used to stipport a county-wide transit district
when the same is created and for aass transportation purposes qenerally.
