RBSOLVTION NO. 4536 -
RESOLUTION OP 'l'HE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
SUPPORTING FORMATION OF A COUNTYWIDE TRANSIT DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County has
requested a Transportation Policy Committee recommendation on when
to hold a transit district formation election; and
WHEREAS, the Transportation Policy Committee has !equestsd
formal written expressions from each of the citie's in Santa
Clara County in order -that the. Transportation Policy Comlli tte·~
recommendations to the Board of Supervisors can be aa solidly·
based and comprehensive as possible; and
WHEREAS, -transportation; and particularly the provision of
suitable oomprehensive mass transit facilities, ·remains _one Gf
the most impOrtant issues for the future of Santa Clara County1
and
WBEREAS, Senate Bill 325 (Chapter 1400, Statutes of 1971)
enacts the Mills-Alquist-Deddeh.Act and requires the estal:tlishment
of a local transportation fund utilizing monies which will bv
generated from within Santa Clara Count,y:;, and

WHEREAS, revenue• c!er.ived from Sena~e Bill 325 (Chapter 1400,
Statutes of 1971) begin accruing July 1, 1972, with first funda
expected to be available in October 1972;

· SBC'l'ION 1. That the City Council of the Ci t.y of Palo Al to
supports the concept of integrated countywide-transit.
SECTION 2. That the City council urges the Transportation
Policy COlllllittee and the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara

County t9 call an election for June 6, 1972 on the formation of
the Santa Clara County Transit District so that the local funds
generated by Ss~ate Bill 325 (Chapter 1400, Statutes of 1971) ~an
be prograuned and spent.locally in the best interest of the citizena
of Palo Aito and of the citizens of Santa Clara County.
SECTION 3. That the City Council of the City of Palo Alto
urges all of its coaaissions, public bodies and resident3 to sup-
port this concept at the June 6 ,. 1972 election.
