RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING SCHEDULE G-1 (GAS RATES) OF THE CITY OF
PALO ALTO UTILITIES RATES AND CHARGES
WHEREAS, recently the California Public Utilities commissiQn
has heard and granted several wholesale gas rate increases to
Pacific Gas & Electric Company, as "offsets" and "tracking;"
and
WHEREAS, said offsets include fluctuations in the cost of
gas to Pacific Gas & Electric Company f~om certain producing
companies, tax law changes, exchange rate changes and simila
items affecting the cost of gas to Pacific b&S & Electric Company;
and
WHEREAS, in addition to offsets, other increases, commonly
known as Mtracking," are authorized to be effective in the future,
when and if the Federal Power Commission grants requested rate
increases to gas producers; and
WHEREAS, P~cific Gas & Electric Company has received authority
to raise whol~sale gas rates for off sets and tracking on extremely
short notice; and
WHEREAS, further a.ppl ica tions are,. pending, or expected to be
filed; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable for the City of Palo.Alto to adjust
its gas rates promptly upon commencemen~ of an increase from Pacific
Gas & Electric Company in order to avoid loss of revenue;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City oi Palo Alto RESOLVES
as follows:
SECTION 1. Until December 31, 1974, the City Manager is hereby
authorized to adjust the 9as rates of the City of Palo Alto contained
on Schedule G-l of the City of Palo Alto Utilities Rates and Charges,
to substantially conform but not to exceed, those rates contained
on Pacific Gas & Electric Company General Service Rate G-2, ~pplicable
to the East Bay, Peninsula-San Jose and Sacramento geographi~al areas.
The effective date of said adjustments to Schedule G-1 shall be the
same date on which the wholesale rate increases from Pacific Gas &
Electric Company become effective for the City.
SECTION 2. Said rate adjustments may be made by the City
Manager to conform with offset and tracking increases granted,_pre-
viously granted, or which may be granted and placed into effect during
said period a~~ shall be limited to & maximum of t~ percent (lO•>
ovP-r the existing rates currently contained in Schedule G-1 of the
Palo Alto Utilities Rates and Charges. This &eaolution shall.not
affect any increase qranted to Pacific Gae ' EJ~~tric COmpany in its
rate of return or in r$tes and charges to produce its existing
authorized rate of return, other than as "offset,.. or "trackinq"
increases, The City Manager shall report any change in gas rates
