HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4795• ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO, 4795 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO CONGRATULATING THE STANFORD UNIVERSITY MEN'S TENNIS TEAM FOR ITS 1973 NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORIES WHEREAS, the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tdnnis Championship Tournament was set in Princeton, New Jersey, from the 18th day to the 23rd day of June of 1973; and WHEREAS, Coach DICK GOULD of the Stanford University Men's Tennis Team approached said tournament with a deucedly undaunted determination, refused to court defeat, and rushed to defend Stanford's honor in said tournament1 and WHEREAS, after said Coach DICK GOULD had let the seeds of inspiration fall, said tennis team rallied to his cause, undercut all opposition, and followed through with a smashing victory at said tournamentr and WHEREAS, said ace tennis team, which cannot be faulted for its drive nor matched for its gutsy spirit, has netted the praise of all, thereby doing a great service to Stanford University and advantaging the peoples of the surrounding community; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION l. The City Council, on behalf of all of the people of the City of Palo Alto, hereby extends its heartiest congratulations to JIM DELANEY, PAT DU PRE, CHIP FISHER, RICX FISHER, GERY GROSLIMONO, ALEX (SANDY) MAYER, and JOHN WHITLINGER of the Stanford University Men's Tennis Team and to their coach, DICK GOULD, for wir.ning the 1973 National Colleqia~e Athletic Assooiation Tennis Championshi~ Tournament. I .- SECTION 2. The City Council qives double prai•• to ALBX (SANDY) MAYER for chipping away until he captured the men'• tenni• singles championship and to JIM DELANEY and ALEX (SANDY) MAYIR for maintaining their grip on the men's tennis double• champion- ship. SECTION 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this resolution to each member of the Stanford University Men's Tennis Team, to Coach DICK GOULD, to RICHARD w. LYMAN, President of Stanford University, to JOSEPH RUETZ, Athletic Director of Stanford University, and to BOB MURPHY, Sports Information Director of Stanford Ur.iversit.y.
