Council on July 10, 1972, extended Georsia Avenue from its present southerly terr.linus to Arastradero Road. It is recommended that AraStradero Road be designated a through street at its intersection with Georgia Avenue to confonn with the established practices involving intersection' along arterial streets. Guinda Street/Channing Avenue/Boyce Street Examination of field conditions re~ealed the lack of adequate sight distance between northbound vehicles on Guinda Street and eastbound vehicles on Channing Avenue. The five.legged skew llligluiaedt oi Utis intersection alsc may be a potential hazard for westbound vehicles turning riaht from the two-way portion of Channinc Avenue. To correct this condition, it is recommended that the existing two-way stop intersection be designated a four·way. stop intersection by the installation of stops on Channing Avenue. The pedestrian crossing safety environment will be substantially improved by the stopping of Channing Avenue traffic at this intersection. In conjunction with the installation of stop signs, the city staff will proceed with plans for the hr!plemel!::tation of traffic channelization islands along Channing Avenue and Boyce Avenue to reduce potentially hazardous wrong way and mildirected traffic rr.ovements. (See EXlllBIT "C" attached.) Walnut Drive/Stanley Way Walnut Drive is a curving residential street located between Embarcadero Road and Newell Road. Residents in tbe area cite the use of Walnut Drive as a bypass for out-of·the-area motori!'ts who wish to avoid the Embarcadero Road/Newell Road intersection during peak traffic hours. This problem has been. confinned by staff observation. Soeeding and dangerous maneuvering along the curvin1 portion of Walnut Drive also have been noted by the Palo AJto Police Department. It is recommended that a three-way stop intersection be designated by the installation of stop signs on Walnut Drive and on Stanley Way. Pqe J of 2 pqes . .. ~ ' . ,. ... • Seale Avenue/Bret Harte Road Since the closure of Seale Avenue at Embarcadero Road, the residents on Bret Harte Street have cited an increase in the traffic volume along Bret Harte Street as well as dangerous maneuvering at the Bret Harte/Seale Avenue intersection. To increase the safety environment of this intersection, it is recommended that a thre~way stop intersection be designated by the installation of stops signs on Bret Harte Street and on Seale Avenue. Manuela Avenue/Oak Hill Avenue Manuela Avenue is a sharply cur;ing residential street at its intersection with Oak Hill Avenue. Residents in the area have cited dangerous maneuvering at this intersection as being potentially hazardou~. Field investigations have revealed a minimal sight distance between westbound vehicles on Manuela Avenue and northbound vehicles on Oak Hill Avenue. To correct this condition, it is recommended that Manuela A venue be designated a through street at its intersection with Oak Hill Avenue ~Y tbe installation of -a stop sien on Qak Hill Avenue. Embarcadero Road/Sea.le Avenue Embarcadero Road/Melville Avenue Emerson Street/Kingsley Avenue The closure of Seale Avenue, Melville Avenue, and Kingsley Avenue at their respective intersections at Embarcadero Road and Emerson Street necessitates the removal of the stop indicated from the ''Stop Intersection System" map.
