RESOLUTION REQUESTING A REHEARING BEFORE THE
INTERSTATE COMtCE COMMISSION ON THE APPLI-
CATION FOR ABANDONMENT BY THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC
COMPANY OF A PORTION OF ITS VASONA LINE BRANCH
WHEREAS, on the 13th day of Marcia, 1963, the I nterst ate
Commerce C om missio n, in Fi nance Docket No. 22009, de nied the
application of the Southe rn Pacific Compa ny to abando n a
portion of its Vaso na Branch Line of rail road in Sant a Cla ra
County; and
WHEREAS, said decision denying the right to aba ndo n said
lin e will seriou sly disrupt the Expressway Progr am of the Co unty
of San ta Clar a in that the Foothill . E xpressway was pla nned to
be constr ucted over the right of way of railroad line sought
to be aba ndoned; and
WHEREAS, if said decision is allowed to sta nd, the increased
costs of the Foothill Expr essway will be so great and incur -
moun table that this por tion of the Ex pressway Prog ram will
likely have to be aban doned; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary and essen tia l to the future de velop-
ment of the County of Sa nta Clara that the Foothill Expressway
be constructed as origin ally plann ed; and
WHEREAS, this City is a member of the Trafficways Committee,
and has en do rsed and supported the Expr essway Progr am tha t has
been appr oved by the v oters of Santa Cla ra County;. an d
WHEREAS, this City would like to go on r ecor d befor e the
Inter state Commer ce Comm ission of requesting that a rehearing
be granted an d that upon rehearin g the application of the
Souther n Pacific Company be approved as originally requested.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, tha t a cer tified
copy of this Resolution be filed with Mr . Harold D. McCo y,
Secr etar y of the InterstateCommerce Com mission, Washin gton 25,
D.C., in or der that it be a ma tter of r ecord that this City
Council requ ests a re hearin g in the application of the Sou thern

•
Pacific Company for its aba ndonment a a portion of its Vasona
Li ne B ranch, and fu rther th at this. City Co uncil he reby requests
that the I nterstate Commerce Commission re ve rse its decisio n to
allow the ab ando nme nt as requested .
