1. Said.Counoil-doves hereby:preliainapily determine that t)*
public interest, oonvefienee and neeessity require, and that it strode
to order the following work .to be: done, aaguisttions and improveme nts
to be m ade, to -Wit:
(a) The improving of University Avenue from Alma Street to
northeas ter ly of Webster Street, by narro wing the corners of each
in tersection by approxlhate 6' fort withi n,:about .. 20 feet; of the
oorn ers, and the improv ing of said inter:motion areas by the
oonstruotion of planting was, fow taios, display lramss, irri-
gation piping, power outlets and drainage facilities, and the
landscaping thereof and tea- planting. of tress, shrubbe ry and '
ornamental vegetation therein.
(b) The r esurtaoing or the street areas within said inter-
sections w ith a surfacimmeterial different s.: the bal erof
the street.
(o) The r econ struction of sidewalks with new $ urtaoing
material.
(d) The construction of lands apea peninlulss contiguous
to the sidewa lk areas between interaeotions a nd the improvi ng
thereof w ith planting a reas an d the installation of fourtaas,
irriga tion piping, pow er outlets and dr ainage facilities, and the
landscaping thereof and the plantin g of trees, shrubbery and
orn amental vegetation therein._
(e) The r elocation and redesign of traffio lights, lighting

hereby changed and that said work will be done to said changed grades.

nature . - All items of work do not neoessartly: - extend for the full
length of the description thereof. The plans and profiles of the work

10. Said Council further d+scl ares that, all public streets, high-

ways, lanes and alleys and other.': publicly -owned property withi n said
assessment district, sha. 1 be omitted from the annual assessment here-
after to be made to pay principal and interest on the bonds to be
issued to cover the posts and expenses of said acquisitions and improve-
.
m ents, an d to pay the costs and ex penses of the maintenanoe;and oper a-
tion thereof.
11. Notice is herebygiven, that serial bonds to bear i nterest
at the rate of n ot toex ceed six per cent (6%) per annum, will be
issued hereu ier .in the manner provided in Bon d Plan E, Artiolc 6,
Chapter 6, of Ordinan ce No. 1929,The Palo Alto Improvement Prooedure
Code, adopted by said Co uno:I.1 on April 11, 1960, the la st installment
of which bonds shall mature not to exceed four teen (14) year s from
the second day of July nex t succeeding ten months from their date.
12. Except as herein otherwise provided tor the issuance of
bonds, all of said work shall bs done as provided in Articles 1 and.d
of Chapter 5 of said Code, an d. Section 17 of Article.XIII of the Co n-
stitution of the state of California.
13. Said acquisitions and Improvements are her eby refer red to
the City Engineer of said City, as the officer havin g oharge and con-
trol of the acqu isition and,aoni'truotion of public improvements in and
for said City of the kind described herein , being a com peten t person

employed by said City fo r that purpose; and said City Enellmar is
hereby direoted to maks and til.;'with the City Cl erk of said City a
report in writi ng, presenting WI! following:
(a) Maps a nd descriptions of the lands, ease ments a nd
rights to be acquired; el
(b) Plans and specifications of the propcsed imp ro vements
to be made pursuant to this Resolution;
(o) Engineer's estimate of the total costs and expenses
• of said acquisitions and improvements and of the incidental
expenses in connection tfier$ With .
14. If any ex cess shall be realised from the sale of Said bonds,,
it shall be spent for the maintev►nom of said Acgpisitions and improve-
ments, un less the Council shall hereafter determine that said amo unt,
or any par t thereof, shall be deposited in the bo nd interest and
redemption fund.
15. NOTICE IS HEREBY MIDI that, in the opinion of this C ounoil,
the ar eas contained within said pro posed assessment district a re the
properties which will be benefited by the maintenance and ope ration of
the improvements herein described, and that the public interest and
conv enience r equir e, and that it is the intention of this Council to
form said area into the Un iversity Avenu e Area Maintenance District
under and pursuant to Article E'. of Chapter. 6 of said Co de, for the pur-

pose of m aintaining and operating said' fa oilities to be co nstructed
hereunder and arty additions, imprrovements an d enlargemen ts thereto
which may hereafte r be made, and that a hearing will be had on said
matter, by this Cou ncil at the samQ time as the hear in g on said r eport,
at which time a ny and all persons interested may be heard.
