aa follows:
Section 1. VlHERSAS, the public interest and the
public neoe~a1ty dome.nd certain public municipal improve-
ments 1n and for the C1 ty of Palo Alto a3 follows: (a) The
ac~plis'!.tion by condemnation or the gas distr1'but1on system
of the Pacific Gas and. Electric Company 11~ the rormer towr.
of V:a~;f:l.old, now 1n t:ae City of Pale Alto.. (b) The
acqub1 tion by condemnation or the electric power and li~)lt
d1atriout1.on systsm or the Pacit1.c Gas and Electric
.:ompany in t:r.~.e former town of Mayfield, now in tha City of
Palo Alto. The cost of each of said acquisitions will
be too groat to be paid out of th•3 ord1nar:r income n.nd
r·evcnue of said c1 ty, whlch pub11c interest appea:r1:J nnd

with said city. it became and ls neea3sary to extend t:~
se:rvi ces of ,: 1 • .!3 and electric power a.r"d ::.1ght to said

town of Mayf.'ield voted to consolldate with the city of
Palo Alto and the property of its blhabitants be subject

Section 2. \';"1-!EREAS, the Council of the City of
Palo Alto, being the legislative or~nch of said City,
contemplates the acquisition of sa.ld F&s distribution
system ·md said electric power and light d1atr:1 bu tion
systam. The coot o.f sn:td acquis~. tiona and each of them
will be too great to be :paid. out of the o:rd1.na.ry income
and revenue of sl.lid city, and for this purpose the
Board of Public Vlorks of the City of.' Palo Alto te.s had
p:..ans and estimates of the oost thereof made by
compet..:>nt enginoers v!hO heve had succe~;sful e:--~rience
in said work '=lnd whioh plans. (1nd estimates have been
exam5.ned and approvec by this CO\.tncil s.nd
v.HERE.A.S, said City council, for the purpose of
said acquisitions and each of tr.er:1, on Ft~bNary 1, 1SJ28
filed with the Railrotid COll"'.mission of the State of
California its application for the "\ti..uat1on or said gas
distribution ayatem and said electric po·~,er and 11tr)lt
d1atr1but1.on system, each baing the properties of the
Pacific Gas t:.r:ri ~:lectrlc Company and being public: ·.Jt1l1 ties

WHEREAS, t:ne said R!iilroad Commission did o;t the
2nd day of J>muary, 1930, on the city's application No.
14393, fix and dat:ermtne the just compensatt0n to be
paid by the city to the Pacific Gaa and Electric Company
for 1 tts S!d.d electric power· and light dtstribution
system, whic.t;. eom~ensation is the su.m of l''ifty-four

'lJ1IEREAS, .since the filing of said peti tiona the
said Pacific G&s and Electric Cotnpnny h&ve made eerta:tr1
addlt1or<S to 1 ts said gaa diatr1b'..lt1on sy.atem and have
also made certain additions to its electric power BUd
light dtatribution system and
1''.r1iERBAS, according to the plans and estim&tcs of
the eng1ne::~1~a of the city said connections and additions
become neceasary for tne purpoae of the city connecting
said d1str1but.1on flyetems and each of them with the
respective d:ht.r'ibut1on sys~ems of the city, which additional
cost above the valuatton of the Railroad Commission in the
case of the gas d1str1button system ia eat1mated at Eight
Thousand and Sixty-f'our ($8,064) and which additional cost
above the valuation of the Rnilroad Commission for the
power and light distribution system 1s estimated at Five
Thousand Three Hundred and N1nety-eeven Dollars ($5.,397);
and which s2id aum for 0&Ch of said distribution system$;
to-wit: Seventy-five Thousand Dollars (~75,000) for the
Gas Distribution system and Sixty Thousand Dollers ($60,000)
for th<J~ electric· power and lj.ght distribution syatam, this
Council finds to be s.n amount in eaeh case too e.roe.t to be
paid out of the annual income and revenue or said city.
Secticn 3. NOW THEREFORE, the Cowtcil ot' the City
of Palo Alto, 'being the legislative branch of.said
m\m1c1pal1 ty, doe.t by this .resoLJ.t1on determine th&t the
public intlerest and public necessity demand the acquisition
for the City of' Palo Alto: {a) rr:ne acquisition of the
gas d1str1but1or.. systom or the Pacif1.c Gas and Electric
Comp&ny in tht" former town of Mayfield. (b) The ac:luis1-
tion of the electric power and 11e,ht d:tatribution system
of the Po.c1f1c G~o~.~ nnd Electric Comps,ny in the former town
of Mayfield. The cost of each of such acquisitions will b~
too gres.t to be pa.id out of the ordinary income and re\•t:mue
of said city; and said Council does hereby 'urther determine
that all necessury and proper proceed.ings be and the :.Hu:1e
shall be tnkun and had for t11e creatio-:1 of a bonded
~"'d~btedness in the sura of Seventy-five Thousand Dollars
{$75,000) for tho acquisition of said gas distribution
system and the sum of Sixty Thousand Dollaro ($60,000)
for tne ac;u1sit1on of ~aid electric power and light
distribution system. Said ?roceedings to be tRken under
the act of February 25, 1901, Statutos of the .3tate of
California 1901, page 27 as amended to date for tho purpose
and to the end of t.11G said two acquisi t1ons.
The above and foregoing resolution was duly passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Palo Alto, at a
