RELATING '.!'0 PROPOSALS OF 'J.'HE SOU'J:RERN PACIFIC CO.
IN THE MA.T'l'ER QEo' TP..E IUPHOVEKENT OF UNIVERSI'l'Y AVE.

The Council of the City ot Palo Alto DO RESOLVE •• follows:
\',tHER:F.:AS. the Southern ?acit1c Company btu made the
following propoaal5 to the C1ty or Palo Alto in connection with
the improvement of University Avenue between the Southwosterly
line of Alma. Street and ·the northeasterly line of El Camino
Real under Resolution of Intention No .. 769. reference to which lesolution is hereby made. Said proposals for said work to be done by the Southern Pacific Co. at its expense are as .t'ollows:
(l}. Pave tho railroad station yard at the Southern
Pacific pa asenger depot with oil macadam. 1xnproving an area of about 43,850 square feet.
(2) Plant an area on the South side of University Avenue comprisi~ about 7,500 aquare feet to low growing •hrube and lawns. laJ.d out to the eatis!action of the Board ot Public
Works an.d the City Engineer of the City or .Palo Alto.
(3} Pave·the roadway leading into the freight yard or
the Southern Pnc1tie Co. with oil macadam for a distance of
about 100 f~et south of University Avenue so as to present mud
and duet 1n the freight yard proper being tracked onto Univ•r-sity Avenue.
(4) To :r·emove 100 teet of the old freight yard fence at
University Avenue so that it will not ~ in the area provided
for shrubbery and luwns.
{5) Deed two strips or land to the city eaoh l3i feet
wide for the full width oi' the Southern P9.c1fic right of way,
said strips to be described ~n aocorda~ce with agreement
between the city engineer and the Southern Pacific Company.
{6) Remove the spur trnek crossing University Avenue on th~ Southwesterly line of the Southern Pacific right of way,
and in its place be granted a permit to construct another track
orosa.ing the avenue at· a po·int twenty feet louthwesterly from
the present Southwesterly ms.in line track, as ehown on the plana.
(7} Maintain a1. l parking on the Southern Pacific right of way.
(8) l.:iove the· present gate nnd tower at the crossit'lg of
the ~outhern Pacific with University Avenue to a point as shown on the J;?lnns.
'9) All of said above work to be done in accordance with
plans and specifications adopted and npproved therefor by the
eng1::1eers of the Southern Pacific Co. and the city engineer of the city of Palo Alto.
U~on the completion and fulfillment of the above and
foregoing proposal on the part of the s·outhern Pacific Co. to
the :ss. tisfnction of the Bon:-d of \'iorks and the Street Super-
in te:ldent of said c1 ty, it 1s understood and agreed and. so
resolved by the City Council of the City of Palo Alto that
all ruseasr.;ents for work done under Resolution of Intention
No. '769 made against the prope.rtieR of the Southern Pacific
Company will be cancelled and that the city or Palo Alto will
pay said nsseasrnentsG
The u. bove and fox-egoing Resolution was passed by the
Cow1oil of the City of Palo Alto at a. regular meeting held on
the 18th day of October. 1929, by the following vote:
