given as required by law and by said Resolution , and

a spec ial election wa s held in said City of Palo Alto on said

WHEREAS, immediately the reafte r said speci al electio n w as
regul arly and d uly canvassed by the B oa rd of Superviso rs of the
C ou nty of S anta Clara as pr ovided in s aid R esolution and the
results of s aid special election duly declared as f ollows, to wit:
That the tot al n uriber of votes give n and cast at said sp ecial
election upon said measure, i ncluding votes case upon abse ntee
ballots was 20,307 votes of which total number of votes given
and cast 8,554 were in favo r of said measure a nd 11,753 against
said measu re.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED a nd its hereby res olved:
1. That a spec ial election w as duly and regul arly called
and held in all things according to Resolution 3559 of s aid City
of Pa lo Alto duly adopted for the objects and pu rposes therein
specified and according to the laws of the State of C alifornia .
2. That a major ity of the qu alified elect ors voting in s aid
special election havin g ca st their ballots against a refer endum
proposition entitled "Referendum of Re solutio n Approvi ng L easing
of Land for an Athletic Cen ter Site" said propositi on is hereby
declared to have been defea te d.
The above a nd for egoing re solution was duly a nd regul arly
intro duced and passed at a regular meeting of the Council c. the
City of Palo Alto on Monda y the 10th day of December, 1962, by the
follo wing vote:
AYES: Arno ld, Bishop, Byxbee, Cresa p, Debs, Dias, Marsha ll, Por ter,
Rodger s, Ro hrs, Rus, Stephe ns, Zweng.
NOES: None
ABSENT: Haight, Stephens
