REFERENDUM or RESOLUTION NO. 348'1 !SftABLISHIMG
OREGON AVENUE AS A COUNTY HIGHWAY
WHEREAS, on the 26th day of March ~962 the Council of the
City of Palo Alto, County of Santa 1 Clara, State of California,
by Resolution No. 3482 duly passed and published did call a
special election to be held in said City and to be consolidated
with the Stat.e and County Primary Election on the 5th day of
June, 1962, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters
of said City the following proposed measure, to wit:

REFERENDUM ON RESOLUTION NO. 3481
ESTABLISHING ORIGON AVEMUI AS A
COUNT! HIGHWAY
Do you favor a major improvement on Oregon
Avenue as provided in Resolution No. 3481 requiring
a divided four-lane roadway, a frontage road to serve
existing properties· on the northwest side, a planting
strip on the southeast side, and requiring the acquisi-
tion of approximately 90 parcels·of land, the project
to be financed by the County Bond is.sue of 1961?
WHEREAS, due and legal notice of s,id special election was
given as required by law and by said Resolution, and
WHEREAS, on. thE.. 5th day of June> 1962, at the hour of 7:00
o'clock in the morning of said day the polls were duly and regularly
opened for said special election in said City and said polls were
<:ontinuously kept open for said purpose from the time they were so
opened until 7:00 o'clock of the afternoon of said. 9ay and during
said hours of said 5th day of June, 1962, a special election was
held in said City of Palo Alto on said measure and in accordance
with said resolution, and
WHEREAS, inmediately thereafter said special election was
regularly and duly canvassed by the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Santa Clara as provided in said Resolution and the results

of said special election duly declared as follows, to wit:
That the total number of votes given and cast at said special
election upon said measure> including votes cast upon absentee
ballots was 18,340 votes of which total number of votes given and
cast 9,407 were in favor of said measure and 8,933 against said
measure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED and it is hereby resolved:
l. That a special election was duly and regularly called
and held in all things according to Resolution No. 3482 of said
City of Palo Alto duly adopted for the objects and purposes therein
specified and according to the laws of the State of California.
2. That a majority of the qualified electors voting in said
special election having cast their ballots in favor of a referendum
proposition entitled "Referendum on Resolution No. 3481 Establishing
Oregon Avenue as a County Highway" said proposition is hereby declared
to have been passed.
The above and foregoing resolution was duly and regularly intre-
duced and passed at a regular meeting of the Council of the City
of Palo Alto on Monday the 9th day of July, 1962 by the following
vote:
AYES: Arnold.t Bishop, Byxbee, Cresa.p, Debs, Dia.s, Haight, Marshall,
Rodgers, Rohrs, Rus, Stephens,. Woodward.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Porter J Zweng.
