PROCEEDINGS FOR THE ACQJJI ITP0N .M
CONSTRUCTION OF PUBLIC INPROVENENTS AND
TO PROVIDE THAT THE COSTS SHALL $A
ASSESSED UPON TiE VIaTRICT BENEFITED,
UNDER APPROPRIATE SPECIAL A888iT
AND ASSESSKENT BOND ACTS

RESOLVED, by the Council of the, City of Palo Alto,
Califor nia, tha t
WHEREAS, it is the intention of tisis, Con ne ll to undertake
appropria te special assessmen t and a sses sment bond proceedings
for the acquisition and con struction of the impro vements herein-
after described;
WHEREAS, a por tion of said acquisitions an d improvements
to be made are within the uninoorpora ted terr itory of the
Cou nty of Sa nta Clara, an d a portion of the la nds to be a sse ssed
to pay the costs and ex penses thereof is unincorpora ted terri-
to ry within said Co unty;
NH$REAS, said aoqu isitio ns an d im prov ements are mor e
particular ly descr ibed as follow s, to -wit:
a) The acq uisitio n of easements necessa ry for
the widening of Ar astradero R oad from El
Camino Real to the So uthern P acific Railroad
right-of-way to a mi nimum width of 75 feet
and a maximum width of 80 feet, a nd the
improving thereof by grading, rem ovi ng trees,
bus hes and existing structures, c onstr ucting
or reconstructing Portland cement conc rete
cur b°, guttere, sidewalks and driveway aprons,
constr uctin g base pavement and wea ring su r-
face, and installing st reet light facilities,
storm dra inage catch basins, inlet str uctu re s
an d appurten an ces, and a 20 -inch water pipe
lin e a nd appur tenan ces.
b) The acquisition and opening of Laura Lan e
to a right-of-way w idth of 60 feet f rom Eaet
Bayshore Roa d easterly abou t 440 feet, and
the im provin g thereof by gr adin g and the
construction therein of base pavement and
w earing surface, sanitar y sew er mains, man-
holes, wye branches, laterals an d appurte-
nances, the construction of Por tland cement
concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, dr iv eway
aprons, u tility laterals a nd serviette ae
requir ed, and the construction of storm
drain pipes, catch basins a nd appur ten anoee
acro ss the easterly termin us of said Lane
then ce c ontin uing easter ly in an easemen t
to be a cquired herein about 204 feet.
c) The constru ction of storm drain pipes,
manhole s, ca tch basins a nd appurtenan ces
along E1 Cam ino Rea l from Los Robles Aven ue
sou thea sterly to a po in t about 700 feet
sou thea sterly of Arastr adero Roa d, in
Arastra dero Road from El Camino Real to
Manuella Av en ue, in Maybell Avenu e fro m El
Camino Real to Ba ker Avenu e, thence in
Baker Avenue from Ma ybe ll Avenu e to Geor gia
Ave nue.
d)
The ac quisition of a ll ea sements and the
con stru ction of a ll improve men ts auxiliary
to any of the above n ecessar y to complete
the same.

WHEREAS, this Council propo ses to contribut e all coats of
acquisition and i mp ro veme nt inv olved in widening in excess of
six ty (60) feet, together with the cost of reconstruction of
any existing improvements a nd the coat of th e water pipe line
and a ppurtenances, and the balance of the costa of said
acquisitions and impro veme nts and the expense s i ncident al thereto
are to be m ade chargeable up on th e diat riet 'benefit ed thereby,
the e xterior bou ndar ies of which are described as the ce-terminous
exte rio r boundar ies of the composite and consolid ated are a of
all parcels of proper ty fr onting on s aid p roposed acq uisitions
a nd impro vemen ts toge ther with other adjacent are as benefited by
said stor m dra ina ge facilities, w hich boundaries are more par-
ticularly shown on a map ther eof identified as "Assessment
Diagram, Im provement Pro jeot 60-6, Ar astradero Road, et al. ", on
file in the office of the City ple rk-which indicates by a bo undary
line the extent of the territory included in the proposed district
a nd which'sha ll gover n for all details as to the extent of the
assessment distr ict;
WHEREAS, said a cqu isitions a nd improv ements to be made are
of su ch a character that they w ill directly and peculiar ly
affect property not only within the bounda ries of the City of
Palo Alto, but also the u nincor porated territory within the
County of Santa Clara , and the pur poses sought to be a ccomplished
can best be accomplished by a sing le oo mprehenaive scheme of
w ork;
WHEREAS, there has been filed with this Co un cil a for m of
Resolution of Preliminary Determina tion and of Intention to be
used in said pr oceedin gs; and
WfER$A3 3, the public inte res t, con venie nce an d necessity will
be ser ved by the making of said acquisition s and impr ov ements and
the levying of said assessme nts.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED, as follows:
1. That request b e, a nd the same is hereby, mad e of the
Board of Supervisors of the County of S anta Clara, it being the
legislative body having jurisdictio n o ve r the uninco rpo rated ter-
ritory in which a portio n of said acq uisitions a nd i mp ro vements
ar e to be had and made a nd said ass essments are to be levied,
gra nt to this City its conse nt, exp ressed by resolutio n, to the
or dering of said acquisitio ns and imp roveme nts , to the f orm atio n
of the a ssessmen t district, and to the assessme nt of the costs
ther eof upon the pr operty benefited thereby, a nd the aesumptior.
of ju risdiction thereover for the pu rposes aforesaid.
2. That request be, and the same is hereby, made that the
form of Resolution of Preliminary Determi natio n and of Int ention
to be adopted be appr ov ed.
3. That the City Clerk of this City is hereby di rected to
file with the Clerk of the Board of'Supervisors of the County of
Santa Clara a certified copy of this Resolution , together with a
copy of s aid Resolution of Preliminary Deter mination and of
Intention.
