WHEREAS, on Friday, the 8th day ot .Ka1, 1926, at an election 4ul1 called and held in the To1'?1 of M91'f1eld for the purpose of voting upon the question "Shall the Town of JlaJ'field and the City of Palo Alto be ooneolidated, and tne propert1 of said munio1pal corporations oe taxed at the same rate to pay the bonded ind~btedneee thereof?", the majority of voters TOtirg on said proposition at ea1d election in the Town of K51f1eld voted in favor ot eaid ooneoliaation, ae s~OWII and reo1ted in the reaolution of the Board of Town ~ruetees of tne Town of Mayfield, declaring the reeul t ot· ea1d election: and, WHERE~S, said Council or tile City of .Pa.lo Alto dete:nn1ned that ea.id election in the Town ot llfliV'field was dul¥ 8lld regularly .held ae provided by an aot,ot the Meg1slature of the State of California entitled "An Act to irov1de for the Coneolidation of Municipal Col'porationa• approved June 11, 1913. aa amended to date: and, WHEREAS, th1a Council did thereupon determine that the question aubmi tted to ·the eleotore of the Town of Ke.yfield •hould be eub- mi tted to the electore of the City of Palo Alto at a special election celled for that purpose~ and WHEREAS,the Council of the City of Palo Alto for thie purpose did paee Ordinance No. 318, calling said speoial election to be neld in the said o1ty of Pelo Altc to determine the question of oonsolida'tion ae above set forth; and WHERE~S, at said election in the City of Palo Al to the same question wae eu'i:imitted to the eleotora of tbe City o~ Palo Alto at said epeoi&l municipal election held in said city on Thursdfi'. the 2nd da7 of July. 192b; and WHEREAS, on sai.d date an election was duly had in the City of Palo Alto for aa1d purpose, and thie Council hae now before it for consideration and oanvaae the result of ea14 election r6turne made by the oftioial election offioera to this Council: and WHEREAS. it appears from said canv&ee that the total number of votes given and oaet at said 1ss I I ,, '~ j 1 ·~ 1 1 ~ ·~ .i' ., ~ 156 election le 1531, and that, of Baid total number of votes eo given and caet, 1090 voters voted "yea• and in favor of said ooneol14at1on. and 441 voters voted "no" end againat ee1d aonaolidation: and WEEP.BAS, 1t appears therefrom that a majority of eaid votee eo given and oast 1a 1* favor of said ooneolidation: NOi', THERE.10RE, this Couno1.l find1 and determine• from said oanvaes of &kid election that the total number of votes givan and oast at 5a1a election ie 1631~ and that of said total nwnber of votes so given and oaat, 1090 votes were given and cast in favor of ooneolidation, and 441 votea were given and oast against caid con1oli4a- t1on, and that the majority of vote1 given and cast is in favor of esid ooneoli4at1on: 11' xe HEP.EBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Town of Ma;yfitld and the Cit7 of Palo Al·to are oonaolidat•49, and it 11 further determined and ordered that the terr1tor1 in- cluded within the exterior ooundar1ee of the former Town of .Mayfield are now included w1 th.in the boundaries of the oonaolidated City of Palo Alto. and that eaid territor;y ehall be goTerned by the freeholders' charter of the City of Palo !lto, and said m~n1o1pal oorporat1on of the Town of .Mayfield shall be annexed and Joined to and merged into the City of Palo Alto. the said city of Palo Alto being the municipnl oorporation Jla•111r.ig tne greater populatlon, and all property within said cor1solidated city eh.all be taxed at tbe same rate to pay the bonded indebtedness ot th~ Town of Mayfield and the City of Palo Alto and shall be taxed at tne same rate for all municipal purposes: and IT lS FURTHEP ORDERED that the City of Palo Alto shall be the euooeseor of the Town of Kayfie~d, and the title to any property owned or held by said Towr1 of Mayfield, or by any officer or board tnere~f ~ in trust or otherwise, for publj.c use ehall, upon such coneolida.tion beir.g completed, ae hereinbefore provided, ipso facto, be Tested in the City of Palo Alto. eo consolidated, having the greater population, or in such officer or board thereof ae has the power to hold or control such property under the freeholders' charter of the City of Palo Al to. Upon th·· completion of euoh consolidation. all persons the . occupying or poeeeseing the several off1oee of or under the government of the Town of K~field so coneolidated with the City of P".lO Al to shall immediately quit and surrender oocupanoy or possession of such oft1cee, which otti~ee &hall thereupon oease and terminate, and they shall eeverall7 forthwith deliver all mon~ye, !unde, books, papere, arcAives and record& in their 011stody and all other property of the eaid Town of Mayfield reepectively ln their hands or under their cnntrol to the proper officere of a&id City ot Pa.lo Alto. The Cit7 Clerk of the City of Palo Alto is hereby directed torthwitn to transmit to and file 1'ith the Seoretary of State of the State of California, a copy o! tne record of the oanTaee of the returns of t~e election held in the City ot talo Alto and entered upon the minutes of said Clerk. togetl.ler with a oopy of the reoor~ of the canvaae of the election hsld in aaid Town of K4J'f1eld, showing the reeult o:t the oanvasa of said election in aa14 Town, together with a statement showing the date of eaoh such election in eaoh such munioipsl corporation and the time and result ot the oanT&es o! the returns of eaoh euoh eleotion. Upon the filing of eaid document in the office of the Secretary of. State, such ooneolidation shall be deemed to be complete, as provided by law.
