P.ESOLUTION NO. 2628
A RESOLUTION OF PRELIMINARY DETERMINATION TO
PROCEED WITH THE CAL1FORNIA AVENUE DISTRICT
OFF-STREET PARKING PROJECT NO. 55-5
RF.SOLVED, by the City council of the City or Palo Alto,
California, that it does hereby preliminarily determine that
the public convenience and necessity require, and that it in-
tends to order, the following work to be done and improvements
to be made in and for said City1 to wit:
1. The ~cqu1sit1on of automobile off-street parking lots
in locations gen~rally described as follows:
(a) In the northeasterly por~1on of the block bounded
by Park Boulevard,, Cambri.dge Avenue,, Birch St:rP.e t and College
Avenue;
(b) In the northwesterly one-half of the block
boundea by Cambridge Avenue, Birch Street, California Avenue
and El Camino Real;
(c) In the one-half block bounded by Park Boulevard,
Birch Street, Sherman Avenue and the alley northwesterly of
Sherman Avenue;
(d) In the one-half' block bounded by .A.ah Street,
Birch Street, Sherman Avenue and the alley northwesterly of
Sherman Avenue;
(e) In the one-half block bounded by Ash Street,
Sherman Avenue, the alJ.ey northwesterly of Sherman Avenue and
the alley southwesterly of Ash Street.
2. The improving of each of said sites by grading and the
constructing the~1n or pavement, curbs, gutters, sewerage and
drainage facilities and a lighting system.
3. All acquisitions, improvements, facilities and equip-
ment auxiliary thezoeto and necessary to complete each of said

Said acquitt1t1on.s are more particularly shown on a map
thereof' on tile in the office o:r the City Clerk entitled
11 C«l1torn1a Avenue District Off-Street Parking Project No. 55-5,"
dated June, 1955, reference to which is hereby made for particu-
lars.
4. All or said work and improvements are to be constructed
at the places and in the particular locations, ot the tonne,
sizes, dimensions and materials, and at the grades and elevations,
as shown and delineated upon the plans and specifications to be
made therefor and tiled in the office or the City Engineer or said
City, rereren~e to which is hereby made tor a full, detailed
description or such proposed work and tor furthe~ particulars.
5. All of said work and improvements shall be done under
the supervision of the City Engineer of said City and all said
work and materials shall be done and furnished to his sat1sfact1on.
6. The estimated. cost of said proJect is $250,000.
7. Said contemplated work and improvements are of more than
local ordinary public benefit, and the cost thereof will be
assessed upon the district benefited thereby, which district
and the exterior boundaries thereof are the composite and con-
solidated area consisting or the parcels ot land bounded on the
northwest by the rear property lines or all parcels tront1ng on
the northwest side ot Cambridge Avenue; bounded on the northea.43t
by the southwesterly line of Park Boulevard between the north-
westerly boundary of this district and California Avenue and the
rear property lines or all parcels fronting on the northeast
side or Park Boul~va1"d between Ca11forn1a Avenue and the south-
easterly boundary hereinafter described; bounded on the south-
east by the rear property lines of all parcels fronting on the

southeaet aide or Sherman Avenue; and bounded on the uouthwest
by the northeasterly line 01.' El·Cam1no Real,, all aa shown on the
map hereinbefore referred to on file in the office or the City
Clerk, reference to which 1s hereb;i.· made .ror particulars.
8. Notice is heI~by given that bonds to represent the un-
paid assessments and bear 1nt~rest at the rate or not to exceed
six per cent (~) per annum will be issued pursuant to Bond Plan K
or Article IV of the Palo Alto Improvement Procedure Code, the
last installment of which bonds shall mature thirty (30) years
from the second day of July next succeeding ten months following
their date.
9. Except as herein otherwise provided for the issuance of
bonds, all of said work and improvements, and the proceedings
therefor shall be had pursuant to Article V of said Code.
10. Notice is hereby given that Monday, the 25th day of
July, 1955, at the hour o:f' 7:30 o'clock P.M., at the Council
Chambers of the City Council of said City in the City Hall or
aaid City, are hereby fixed as the time and place when and where
·any and all persons interested may appear and ahow cause, if any
they have, why the City Council should not t ind. and detenn1ne
that the public convenience and necessity require the acquisition
and improvement deBcribed herein, without further compliance with
the Spec1.al Assessment Investigation, L1mita.t1on and Majority Pro-
test Act of 1931.
11. The Clerk of said City shali give notice of the adoption
of this resolution and of said hearing by publishing a Notice of
Proposed Local Improvement once in the Palo Alto T:lm.tJs, a daily
newspaper published and circulated 1n said City, said publication
to be had at least ten. (10) days before said date o'f bearing.
The above and foregoing resolution was duly and regularJ.y
introduced. and passed at a regular meeting or the Council or the
