DECLARING THI RESULT OF THE SPECIAL ELRCTION
HELD IN THI CITY OF PALO ALTO, COUNTY OF SANTA
CLARA.~ STATE OF CALIFORNIA ON MARCH 18, 1952,
UPON THE QUESTION OF INCURRING THE BONDED IN-
DEBTEDNESS OF SAID CITY FOR THE OBJECTS AND
PURPOSES HKREINA?TBR ENUMERATED.
'WJ{EREA..~. on the 11th day or February, 1952, the Council ot the City or Palo Alto, County of Santa Clara, State of Cal1-
rorn1a, by ord~.r1ance duly passed and published, did call a spec1~1
election to be held 1n said city on the 18th day or March, 1952,
for the purpose of a ubmi t ti.ng to the qualif 1ed voters of sa.1d
city the f.ollow1ng propositions:
PROPOSITION No. 1. Shall the City of Palo Alto incur
a bonded indebtedness in the prin-
cipal amount or $100,000.00 for the object and purpose or the addition and improvement of existing municipally
owned real property at the corner of Embarcadero Road
and Newell Road 1n the City of Palo Alto, by the
acquisition of contiguous adjoining real property
and the improvement thereof, including paving and
lighting, but exclusive or any buildings thereon?
AND. WHEREAS, due and. legal notice of said special election was given as required by law and by said ordinance; and
WHEREAS, on the 18th day of March, 1952, at the hour of
seven o'clock in the morning of said day, the polls were duly
and regularly opened for said special election in said city, and
said polls were continuously kept open for said purpose from the
time they were so opened until seven 0 1 clock in the afternoon of
said day, and during said hou.rs of said 18th day of March, 1952,
a special election was held in said City of Palo Alto, on said
propos1t1on, and in accordance with said ordinance; and
WHERF..AS, 1l'lllled1ately thereafter said special election was regularly and duly canvaseed by the duly constituted officers by
law appointed for that purpoi:Je, and the result of said election
~ was thereafter made and delivered to the Council of said city,
ae by law and by said ordinance required; and
WHEREAS, 8 absentee ballots were ~iven and cast in
accordance wi tr. the provisions of Section 3 (b) or Ordinance 1383
calling the above mentioned special election.
That ·t;he total number of absentee ballots cast in said
election upon said proposition was 8 votes, of which total
number of votes so given and cast» there were given and cast 5
votes in ft:i.vor of sald proposition and 3 votes against sa1d proposition.
WHEREAS, thereafter, to wit: on the 24th day of March,
1952, at the hour of 7:30 P.M. o'clock 1n the evening of said day,
the said council did, at the place required by law and by said ordi-
nance, duly convene and proceed to and did canvass said returns of
said special election so held aa aforesaid# and did there~pon declare
the result of said special election as follows, to wit:

That the number of votes given and cast at said special election was 3983 votes.

That the total number of votes given and cast at said
election upon said Propositlon #1 was 3983 votesil of wl11ch total
number of votes so given and cast, there were given and caat 2361
vote~ 1n favor of said propoeit1on and 1622 votes against said l , proposition; and
I ~ .. WHEREAS, in or(jer to authorize the incurring of indebted-
ness and the issuance of bonds therefor upon any proposition
submitted at any apec1al election called and held for that purpose,
there must be given and cast for and in favor or said proposition
so submitted and voted. upon the votee or at least two-thirds or
all the votere vot1ng at said a~ecial election;

NOW, THEREFORE, BB IT RESOLVED, and it 13 hereby resolved
(1) That a sp~c1al election was duly and regularly called
and held in all things according to ordinance of said City of
Palo Alto, duly adopted for the objects and purposes therein
spec1f1ed, and according to the laws of the State of California.
(2) That the total votes given and cast at said spec1al
election, 1rlclud1ng votes cast upon absentee ballot2, were duly
and regularl:i· canvassed and found to be 3983 votes.
(3) That the total number or votes given and cast at said
special election upon Proposition #1 tor the objects and purpoaes
therein stated, was 3983 votes, of which total number of votes
so given and cast there were given and cast 2361 votea in favor or sa1d proposition and 1622 votes against said proposition.
That said Propoa:tt1on No. 1 has not received the requisite
two-thirds votes of all votes given and cast at said special
election, and the 1ssu.a.nce or bonds or said c1 ty for aald propo-
s1 t1on, for the objects and purposes therein states, 1a not authorized by sald election.
The above an.d foregoing reaolut1on was duly passed by the
Council or the City of Palo Alto at a regular meeting held on
the 24th day of March, 1952, by the following vote:
