RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
RECOGNIZING THE ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF TERRI BAXTER
OF PALO ALTO HIGH SCHOOL AND CONGRATULATING HER ON
BECOMING A 1980 OLYMPIAN
WHEREAS, Terri Baxter of Palo Alto, as a Palo Alto High School
freshman, won the 100-yard breaststroke to become Central r.oast
Section Champion; and
WHEREAS, Terri Baxter in an outstanding performance in the 1979
indoor A.A.U. Senior National Championship finished third in the
100-yard breaststroke and placed in the 200-yard breaststroke in the
consolation final; and
WHEREAS, Terri Baxter, as a member of the Ladera Oaks Aquatic
Club, 1n a brilliant performance at the Olympic trials, tied for first
place in the 200-meter breaststroke in a time of 2.34.06 and finished
second in the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 1.12.04 to qualify
as a 1980 Olympian; and
WHEREAS, Terri Baxter has shown tremendous skill and dedication
to become one of the nation's best swiirrners;
ffOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE
as. fol lows:
SECTJON_l: That the Council recognizes the tremendous achievements
and sacrifice by Terri Baxter to become a 1980 Olympian.
SECTION 2: That this Council, on behalf of the people of Palo
Alto. expresses its heartfelt congratulations to Terri Baxter and
wishes her success in her quest to reach the 1984 Olympics.
