RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO THE MEMBERS OF THE
VETERANS MEMORIAL BUILDING CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
ORIGINAL
WHEREAS, on October 14, 1975, the Palo Alto City Council authorized
Mayor Stanley R. Norton to appoint a Citizens Advisory Corrmittee for the
purpose of pooling citizen expertise and ingenuity to explore alternative
ways of preserving and/or restoring the Veterans Building; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Stanley R. Norton appointed the following persons to
the Citizens Advisory Ccmmittee on the Veterans Bu·ilding, effective
January 9, 1976:

WHEREAS, after three months of investigation and de1iberation, the
Citizens Advisory Corrmittee submitted the Report of the Citizens Advisory
COlllllittee on Preservation of the Veterans Building, dated March 22, 1976,
urging restoration of the building in order for it to be a dignified
memorial to the Veterans, to its noted architect Julia Morgan, and to the
State and Comnunity history of which it is so much a part; and
WHEREAS, on No'Vember 11, 1976~ a dedication ceremony of the Veterans
Memorial Building as California Historical Landmark No. 895, was held; and
WHEREAS, the Citizens Advisory Coomittee has worked closely with the
Pala Alto City staff since 1976 to bring about restoration and preservation
of the Veterans Building.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Palo Alto does hereby gratefully record its appreciation, as well as the
appreciation of the citizens of the cOlllllunity, for the outstanding public
service rendered by the Veterans Memorial Building Citizens Advisory
Coomittee.
