RESOLUTION NO. 5813
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION HELD ON JUNE 3, 1980
WHEREAS, on June ~. 1~80, the City Council of the City of Palo
Alto, County of Santa Clara, submitted to the voters of said City in
a special election which was consolidated with the statewide election
of the State of California the following question:
City of Palo Alto Advisory Measure J
8hould the Governor and Legislature of the State of
California be advised that it is the will of the people
of the City of Palo Alto that the Governor and the
Legislature apportion the existing six cent ($.06)
sales tax and use tax so that two cents ($.02), rather
than the present one cent ($.01), be allocated to
cities and counties for local services rather than by
the State for State services?
WHEREAS, due and legal notice of said special election was given
as required by law; and
Wlll!:REAS, on the third day of June, 1980, at the hour of seven o'clock
in the morning of said day, the polls were duly and regularly opened
for said special election in said City and said polls were continuously
kept open for said purpose from the time they were so opened until eight
o'clock in the evening of said day; and
WHEHEA8, on July 7t 1980, the Council of the City of Palo Alto
met at its usual place of meeting and did then and there canvas the
returns of said special municipal election and declare the results
thereof;
NOWp THER~FOHE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE
as follows:
S~CTION 1. The Council finds and declares that:
(a) A special election was duly and regularly held on June 3, 1~80,
accortting to the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, applicable ordinances
of the City, and the election laws of the State of California.
(b) The whole number of votes cast in the City of said consolidated
election including votes cast upon absentee ballots as shown on the
abstract of vote provided by the Registrar of Voters was 25,123.
(c) The votes cast on the advisory question measure J regarding
sales tax were: For the advisory measure, 20,208; Against the advisory
measure, 2,045.
SEL'TION 2. The Council finds and declares that measure J did
receive the approval of the majority of the electors voting on said
question of said special election and that said advisory question has
been approved as an advisory measure only.
SECTION 3. Attached hereto and incorporated herein as Exhibit
11A11 1s the statement of the result as required by section 22933 of
the Elections Code of the State of California.
8EC'l'ION 4. The City Clerk is directed to forward said measure
and the results thereof to the Governor and the Legislature of the
State of California.

I, George A. Mann, Registrar of Voters and
Recorder of the County of Santa Clara, State of Califor-
nia, do hereby certify that at the Primary Election held
on June 3, 1980 a Special Municipal Election consolidated
therewith, was held in the City of Palo Alto for the pur-
pose of submitting Measure J to the voters of said City:
That the official canvass of the returns of
said election was conducted by the off ice of the Regis-
trar of Voters in accordance with the appropriate provi-
sions of the Elections Code of the State of California:
and
That hereto attached is a full, true and correct
statement of the votes cast at said Special Municipal Elec-
tion.
