RESOLUTION NO. 5812 ------
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
TO CO-SPONSOR, WITH CREATIVE INITIATIVE FOUNDATION,
THE YOUTH CONSERVATION CORl'S IN PALO ALTO DURING THE
SUMMER OF 1980
WHEREAS, the President and the Congress have called for voluntaTy
conservation of our energy resources by all citizens to alleviate this
nation's critical energy problem; and
WHEREAS, the days of low-cost energy are over as our fossil fuel
resources are being depleted at an ever-increasing rate; and
WHEREAS, continued reliance on overseas oil supplies creates un-
known risks for the future security and economic well-being of our
nation; and
WHEREAS, interested young people wish to participate in the solu-
tion of this energy problem through individual voluntary actiorr; and
WHEREAS, in the summer of 1980, Creative Initiative Foundation, a
nonprofit educational foundation, is sponsoring a Youth Conservation
Corps in Palo Alto to raise public awareness of the need to conserve
energy and to inform the pu~lic how to conserve energy; and
WHEREAS, Creative Initiative Foundation seeks the support of the
City for this project, at no cost to the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE
as follows:
SECTION 1. The Council agrees to co-sponsor the Youth Conservation
Corps, and furthermore encourages all citizens of Palo Alto to cooperate
with the Youth Conservation Corps, and make every effort to conserve our
energy resources.
SECTION 2. The Council finds that the adoption of this resolution
will have no significant adverse environmental impact.

I, George A. Mann, Registrar of Voters and
Recorder of the County of Santa Clara, State of Califor-
nia, do hereby certify that at the Primary Election held
on June 3, 1980 a Special Municipal Election consolidated
therewith, was held in the City of Palo Alto for the pur-
pose of sub~.dtting Measure J to the voters of said City:
That the official canvass of the returns cf
said election was conducted by the office of the Regis-
trar of Voters in accordance with the appropriate provi-
sions of the Elections Code of the State of California;
and
That hereto attached is a full, true and correct
statement of the votes cast at said Special Municipal Elec-
tion.
