That the following wages be and ~e same are hereby
fixed as the generel prevailing wage rate or wageo upon all
public work 1n the City or Palo Alto ror the year 193?, to-wit:

Wagea of all laborers ahall be aeYent7-t1ve centa ($0.76)
per hour for straight time work •nd OD Saturda7 morning,

ing vibrators O'Yer two and one-halt (Jt) 1nchea ahatt diaae-

with air or electric apader shall receive alao ninety centa
($0.90) per hour. No laborers shall be paid tor at a leaa
rate than seventy-five ($0.75) cents per hour.
Ordinary o"Yertime, one .nd one halt time a above
rate~ Legal holidays, Saturdays, Sunda1s, where crafte work
a five da7 week, and/or where achedule of cratta eo provide,
overtime shall be paid at the rate or double time.
Any classification omitted herein ehall ~ paid
not rees than the minimum rate as aet forth above. Jleri
ordered to report tor work tor whom no employment ia pro-
vided shall be entitled to two (2) houra'pay.
The foregoing schedule of ~er d1em wages ia baaed upon a working day or eight (8) hours. The hourly
wage rat& prescribed hereinabove ia the per (Uo rate
divided by the aforementioned number or hour• constituting a working day.
It ahnll be mandatol'T upon the ccntraotor to whom
the contract is awarded, and upon any subcontractor und.er
him, to pay not less than the said specified rates to all
laborers, workmen, and mechanics employed by them 1n the
execution or the contract.
All work shall regularly be performed between the
hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. J provided, that ~.n emergencies
or where premises cannot be vacated tor work until the
close of buainees, men then reporting tor wor~ shall work
at etraight time; but any work performed atter midnight
ahall be paid t~e and one-half except on Saturdays, Sun-
days and Holidays, when double t1me shall be paid.
Selection of men for employment shall be made in
accorC:.ance with Ordinance No. 522, "An ordinance enforcing
preference for the employment of resident labor upon
public works i'n the City ot Palo Alto, &nd defining condi-
tions under which contracts for suab work shall be awarde~"
adopted by the City Counci~, JanuarJ 26, 19~1; and ••
amended by Ordinance No. 612, •An ordinance amending certain
sections of Ordinance No. 522 referring to the employment
ot resident labor upon public worka in the City of Palo Alto,•
adopted by the Cit7 Council November 13, 193~.
Attention ia called to the provi5ions of Chapter
398 ,,f the Statutes of 1931 prohibiting the ttmployment ot
aliena on public works.
