RESOLUTION NO. 5264
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION FOR THE LONG AND FAITHFUL
SERVICE RENDERED TO THIS COMMUNITY BY NOEL E~ PORTER
WHEREAS, in view of the untimely death of NOEL E PORTER, it
is fittin9 that the Council of the City of Palo Alto recognize
hi• long, faithful and devoted service to this cotmnunity; and
WHEREAS, NOEL E, PORTER served as Mayor of Palo Alto during
five of the twelve years he was a member of the City Council;
was Chairman of the Public Works, Public Utilities and Engineering
committees and was a member of other Council committees; and
served aa President of the League of California Cities;-arid
WHEREAS, NOEL E. PORTER provided leadership and direction to
the City of Palo Alto and the community has been enrichad by his
many contributions; devoted extraordinary time and energy to many
important qovernment problems during his years on the City Council,
oontriouting suppo~t to many community improvement projects such
a• downtown parking improvement, Stanford Industrial Park develop-
mant, ..nd the development of the present system of Palo Alto
neighborhood parks and Foothills ·Park: and he was a humanitarian,
••naitive to the needs of workers and did much to shape the positive
attitudes and prj,de of city employees;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
'1'he Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby gratefully
records its appreciation, as well as the app~e~iation of the
citizens of this conununi ty, for the long and · f ai thf ul servic1.~ of
NOEL E. PORTER and expresses its sense of personal loss. The
council extends to th• mem.be%• of his family its expression of
heartfelt sympathy and directs the City Clerk to transmit a copy
of this resolution to bis wife, _Mrs. Janice Porter, and her family.
