RESOLUTION NO. 5248
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE C ITV OF PALO AL TO
ENDORSING THE THREE-YEAR LAND PURCHASE
CAMPAIGN OF THE SEMPERVIRENS FUND
WHEREAS, Semperv1rens Fund is.a non-profit organization dedicated to the
completion of Big Basin Redwoods and Castle Rock State Parks; and
WHEREAS, Within the next three years, by the end of 1978, the Semperv1rens
Fund hopes to fill in the proposed boundaries of both parks, and plans to accomplish
this goal by purchasing rn:>st of the remaining properties still in private ownership
using funds raised in this campaign, and help from the State of California through
its matching fund programs; and
WHEREAS, Presently, 7,971 acres in Big Basin and 1,381 acres in Castle Rock
have yet to be acquired from private owners; and
WHEREAS, Many of the Sempervirens Fund's members, contributors and good friends
live in the Palo Alto corrrnunity;

NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Palo A1to endorses
the three-year land purchase campaign of the Sempervirens Fund to fill in the boundaries
of Big Basin Redwoods and Castle Rock State Parks and expresses its gratitude and
appreciation to this group for the;r efforts in establish;ng trails and parks in and
close to the urbanized areas of Santa Clara Valley.
