HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 5202• RESOLUTION NO. $202 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO EXPRESSING CONCURRENCE WITH THE SOLID WAS'l'E MANAGE- MENT Pl.AN FOR SANTA CLARA COUNTY wBERE.As, the Nejedly-Z'ber9-Dills Solid Waste Management and Resource Recovery Ac:. of 1972 (hereafter referred to as the Act) requires e~ch county in cooperation with affected local jurisdictionn to prepare a comprehensive, coordinated Plan for the management of solid wastes: and wHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto, California, participated in the preparation of the Solid Haste Management Plan for Sq~t3 Clara County through its elected officials and staff over the past two and one-half years: and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto recognizes the need for coordination and planning of future solid-waste management activities, both locally and ~ionally in accordance with the Act1 .and WHEREAS, participation in a joint effort for short-~ mid-, and long-range solid waste management planning will be for the express purpose of enhancing the existing system and deriving optimum. benefits from recources recoverable from the waste stream: and ' WHBREAS, the City of Palo Alto has reviewed the Plan with specific reference to the objectives of the Plan, the methods and organization for implementation of the proqram, the procedures for .financing the recanmended program and the role identified for this City in the Plan; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECrION 1. The Council of the City of Palo Alto concurs in the principles and objectives of the Plan for the purposes of Section 66780, California State Gove:cnmant Code. SECTIO~ 2. Palo.Alto City Council suppprt or concurrence with solid Waste Management Plan for santa Clara County is in no way to_be implied as Palo Alto•s endorsement of the filling of Hellyer can~on or any f~ture disposal sites not now identifi~ or in use. SECTION 3.. It is the sense of Palo Alto City Council-that it intends to proceed with and work te>Ward form~lation of areas-f0r Joint Powers Agreement at the earliest stage, and to that end it authorizes the Mayor to contact City Councils in Area I, for purpose of calling a meeting in the near. future to begin discussions about area-wide Joint Powers Agreement. , • • • .. SECTIO?~ 4. ~he Council of the City of Palo Alto directs the City Clerk to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.'
