RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL or fRt CITY OF PALO ALTO
ADOPTING A POLICY R.EGAR.DIRG THE NAMING OP STREETS
11BEREAS, this Council desires to establish a policy for the
naming of streets with the City in order to assure an efficient
processing of all naaes;
HOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
USOLVE ae follows:
SECTION l. The following policy shall apply to the naming
of new streets within the City of Palo Alto:
Street Naming Policy
1. Any new street shall be named by the City Council.
2. The City Manager or his/her deaignee shall refer
the street naming to the Palo Alto Historical Association for sug~
geaLions of appropriate historical names. The name~ suggested by
the Historical Association shall be reviewed by the Comnunications
Division. The approved names shall then be submitted to the City
Council and shall be placed on the Consent Calendar. In the event
that the street naming is removed from the consent calendar. it
may be raferred to the Finance and Public Works COIJlnittee.
3. Tentative subdivision and preliminary parcel maps

4~ "Street" shall mean any public or private street,
road. highway, expressway, alley, lane, court, or way.
SECTION 2. The Council finds that this is not a project under
the Ccllfornfa Environmental Quality Act and, therefore, no environ-
mental impact assessment is necessary.
