HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 5734------.. ~------------------------• ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. _5l3L RESOl.UTION OF THE COUNCIL OF-TllJ'::CITY OF PALO ALTO EUDORSING OCTOBER 1979 AS ENERGY COHSERVATION MONTH lu~D ENCOURAGING CITIZENS TO VOLUNTARILY COUSERVE ENERGY WHEREAS, bi-partisan leadership has called for a voluntary nationwide energy conservation effort by all citizens of this Country; and WHEREAS, it has become abundantly clear that the days of low- cost energy are over and that our fossil fuel resources are being depleted at an ever-increasing rate creating unknown risks for future generations; and WHEREAS, continued reliance on overseas oil supplies is creating potential economic crisis; and WHEREAS t many citizens of this community ha.ve demonstrated their willingness to respond positively to the energy crisis by voluntary conservation; and WHEREAS, expanding this response to a nationwide cooperative effort would represent a major contribution to solving the energy crisis; and · WHEREAS, the month of October 1979 has been designated as International Energy Conservation Month; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. This Council hereby endorses October 1979 as Energy Conservation Month and encourages both its own constituents and all citizens nationwide to agree vcluntarily to: . . (a) .a~duce the use of private automobiles through elim,~nating driving one day a week or reducing total use by 15%; (b) Reduce other energy consumption by 20%; and (c) Share the idea of voluntary cooperation for energy conservation with at least two other persons.
