RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
RECOGNIZING THE ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMEtffS or BILL GREEN
OF CUBEERLEY HIGH SCHOOL ANO CONGRATULATING HIM ON HIS SUCCESS

In a brilliant performance at the 1979 California State High School
Meet, BILL GREEN won the 101J~yard dash in a national best time of
9.4 seconds; and
BILL GREEN won the 440-yard race and set a new national High School
recurd of 46.27 seconds, but was disqualified because he stepped
out of the lane, which disqualification he accepted in a mature
manner; and
BILL GREEN has recorded the fastest 440-and 220-yard times for any
High School athlete in the country this year; and
BILL GREEN finished a close second in the Brooks Invitational
400 meter race at Berkeley, California, while comueting
against the best college and Club run~ers in the U.S.; and
BILL GREEN participated in the National AAU Track and Field Meet
in Walnut, California, m1 June 15, 16~ and 17, and came in third
running the fastest 400 meters in history by a high schooler
{45.51 seconds); and
BILL GREEN received the 11 Penfnsula Times Tri bune11 Award as tt'ie
Pen·insula Male Athlete of the Year and in c;o doing has clearly
established h·imself as one of the most outstanding athletes ever
to com~ out of a California High School; and
BILL GREEN has been invited to join a team which will compete in
the Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in July 1979.
NOW, THEREFORF, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1: That this Council recognizes the outstanding
achievements of BILL GREEN and in particular recognizes
his s~ccesses when competing in both High School and men 1s
a thlet1c events.
SECTION 2: That this Council~ on behalf of the people of Palo
Alto, expresses its heartfelt congratulations to BILL GREEN
and wishes him continued success in his athletic career.
