HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 5633• • • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 5633 ------ RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION FOR FUNDS FROM THE CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISSION WHEREAS, the City of Palo Allo strongly supports energy conserva- tion goals and recognizes that a significant pcrtion of energy resources is consumed by the transpor_tation sector; and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto desires to reduce the impact of the automobile on energy consumption and related environmental factors, and to this end has adopted in its Comprehensive Plan several policies to achieve said goal, e.g. (1) improve mass transit: (2) avoid major in- creases in automobile traffic capacities~ (3j increase the number of persons carried per vehicle~ (4) promote bicycle use; and (5) support legislation to relieve motor vehicle emissions. noise, and fuel consump- tion; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palp A·ito has adop¥~d.-addition­ ally a Downtown Parking Management Plan incl·u'tlitg an alternative modes element to implement several of the above-stated policies~ and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the proposed Alternative Modes User Information Program is in accord with and will augment the adopte:r~­ plans and policies. NOW, THEREFO~, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTIOt1 1. The City Council authorizes the City Manager to act on City's behalf and to submit an application and all necessary supporting papers to the California Energy Commission for funding of an Alternative Modes User Informa- tion Program from tne Commission's Local Action Program (RFP No. 400-045[8/9]), Transportation Systems Management category. The City Manager is further authorized to nego- tiate contract terms for City. SECTION 2. The City Council finds that the proposed project will not have a signif i.cant adverse environmental impact.
