HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 5586• • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 5586 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO FOR THE FORMATION OF A LAW ENFORCfil1EUT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION (LEAA) MINI BLOCK COORDINATIUG COUNCIL WHEREAS: the Regional Criminal Justice Planning Board of the County of Santa Clara, Region J, has been diasolved by the with- drawal of the City of San Jose and the County of Santa Clara; and WHEREAS, the cities within the County of Santa Clara: other than tha City of San Jose, have no vehicle through which to partic- ipate in the LEAA program; and WHEREAS, said cities desire to develop a comprehensive plan for criminal justice improvement to utilize LEAA fundsi and WlillREAS, said cities desire to avail themselves of LEAA plan- ning and adndnistration funds for crime control and juvenile justice; and WHEREASt said cities desire to form a Mini Block Coordinating Council under LEAA guidelines to coordinate criminal justice planning activities with the other jurisdictL:>ns; and WHEREAS, the combined population of said cities is in excess of 500,000 according to the 1977 State Department of Finance, and WHEREAS, an application for a Mini Block and a Coordinating Council therefor is dependent upon all of said cities joining together; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows~ !_ECTION 1. In conjunction with the other cities within the County of Santa Clara County, other than the City of San Jose. the City of Palo Alto hereby declares itself to be part of a Mini Block and a Coordinating Council. therefor for the purposes outlined in the federal Crime Control and Juvenile Justice Act a~d urges said other cities to join it in the formation of a Uini B).ock and a Coordinating Council. • • SECTIOH 2. The Mini Block Coordinating Council shall submit a Planning Grant Application to the Office of Criminal Justice Planning prior to August 31, 1973, for the purpose of securing Part B Planning Funds for the development of the 1980 Fiscal Year Plan and the administration of current LEAA grant projects.
