The Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to Section 12.20.010 of the Palo Alto
Municipal Code, Schedules R-i, R-1-FA, R-2, R-3, and R-4 (Domestic
~fuse Collect.ion, Refuse Collection, Commercial Refuse Collection-
Standard 32-Gallon Containers, Commercial Refuse Collection~
Special Containers, Commercial Refuse Collection, Detachable
Containers and Special Refust~ Collection) of the Palo Al to
Utilities Rates and Charges arc hereby amended to read as pro-
posed in Sheets 121i, 127.lc, 128c, 129c, 130c, 130.lc, and
13lg attached hereto.
SECTION 2. The Council hereby finds thut this is not a
project as defined in Section 11.04 130 of the Palo Alto Municipal
Code and, tnerefore, no environmental impact assessment is neces-
sary.
SECTION 3. The foregoing changes shall become effective
at the commencement of the August 1978 billing cycle.

An apartment dwelling is defined as any dwelling in a building
containing l~o or more single-family dwellings.
If a greater frequency of collection is desired for an apartment
house than is shotJn in the above schedule, the monthly service
charge will be determined by the Contractor, based on commercial
rates.
A $2.00 service charge will be made if return call is necessary in
order to pick up containers previously missed by reason of locked
gate, or other reasons which prevented service.

This schedule applies to all refuse collection service.
TERRITORY~
Within the incorporated limits of the City of Palo Alto and on land
owned or leased by the City, located in Service Area 2.
RATES:
SERVICE AREA 2:
Minimum Monthly Charge ••..•.••.••••• $5.00
Minimum charge provides for the collection of refuse from two
32-gallon containers, one collection per week. Containers
must be 1ocated within 150 feet of public street or road.
Each additional 32-gallon container, per month •• $2.00
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
1. The contractor will deten:rl.ne the charge for service where refuse
containers are located more than 150 feet from a public street or
road or for refuse which requires special handling.
2. The City Eugineer will determine the charges when there is a
disagreement between the customer and contractor.

STANDARD 32-GALLON CONTAINERS
APPLICABILITY:
* This schedule applies to all occupied establishments other than
domestic dwellings as required by City ordinance.
TERRITORY:
Within the incorporated limits of the City of Palo Alto and on land
owned or leased by the Ci~y of Palo Alto located in Service Area 1.
RATE:

The minimum charge is based upon the collection of ref use from ~

The monthly charge for services not shown on the following schedule of
rates will be determined by the Contractor. In the event that the

shall determine a charge that he considers to be just and reasonablP.

This schedule applies to commercial establishments and multi-unit
apartment dwellings using special refuse containers rented from the
Contractor.
TERRITORY:
Within the incorporated limits of the City of Palo Alto and on land
owned or leased by the City located in Service ~rea 1. ·
RATES:
The monthly charge for services not shown on the following schedule
of rates trill be determined by the Contractor. In the event that the
cuslomer and Contractor cannot agree upon the charge, the City Engineer
shall determine a charge that he considers to be just and reasonable
and the Contractor, in such event, shall provide the collection service
at or below the charge determined by the City Engineer. The charge will
be based on the averag~ amount of refuse collected from the establish-

SPECIAL REFUSE COLLECTION
APPLICABILITY:
This schedule applies to service rendered by the Contractor upon
specific request of an owner or tenant of premises for the collection
of refuse that could not be removed by the regular coll~ction service
because of the quantity or quality of the refuse. Building materials
and dirt are excluded from this service.
TERRITORY:
Within the incorporated limits of the City of Palo Alto and land owned
or leased by the City of Palo Alto located in Service Area 1.

Rates for the special collection of refuse in excess of five (5)
cubic yards will be established by the Contractor.
Charges made ander this schedule shall be added to the regular
monthly utilitie$ bill of the person receiving the service and
payment thereof will be subject to Rule No. 8 and Rule No. 10
of the Utilities Rules and Regulations.
