RESOLUTION NO. 5564
A RESOLUTION OF PRELIMINARY OF.TERMINATION AND DIRECTING
PREP~TION OF REPORT UNDER DIVISION 4 OF THE
STREETS AND HIGHWAYS COOE
CALIFORNIA AVENUE AREA BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT .
PROJECT NO. 77-70
RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Palo Alto, California,
as follows:
1. The public interest, convenience and necessity req~ire and
it is the intention of this Council to undertake certain
acquisitions and improvements, the general nature, location and
extent of said acquisitions and improvements being described in
Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a part hereof. All of $a!d
work and improvements are to be constructed at the places and in the
particular locations, of the forms, siz~s, dimensions and materials,
and at the iines, grades and elevations as shown and delineated upon
the plans, profiles and spec_ifications in the report hereinafter
directed to be prepared and to be filed in the office of the City
Clerk and open to public inspection upon preliminary approval
thereof by this legislativ~ body.
2. The costs of said proposed acquisitions and improvements
will be assessed upon lands in an assessment district, tne exterior
boundaries of, which district are shown on a map thereof on file in
the office ¢f. the City Clerk, to which reference is h~r~by made,
. which map indicates by a boundary line the territory included in the
proposed assessment district and which shall govern for all detai ::.~
as to the extent of the assesshlent 6lstrict.
3. Proceedings fer said acquisitions and improvements shall
b~ conducted pursuant to Division 4 of the Streets and Highways Cod~
~the Special Assessment Investigation, Limitation and Majority
Protest Act of 1931) and section 13.12.040 of Chapte~ 13.12 of Title
13 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code (analagous to the Municipa~
!mprovement Act of 1913) and bonds shall be issued pursuant to
section 13.16.100 of Chapter 13.16 of Title 13 of said Code
(analagous to t~e Improvement Act of 1911) •
4. The City Engineer is directed to procure the required
information for and prepare a written report upon said proposed
acquis:~ions and improvements, to be completed and filed with ~his
legislative body within one (1) year from the date of adoption. 0£
t~is ~e~olution, which report shall contain the information required
pursua~t ~o Section 2825 of the Streets and Highways Code. A copy
of ':'.":s resolution shall be attached to said report.
5. !t is proposed that the amount of $8,000 will be pa~a by
the City toward the costs of said proposed acquisitions and
improve!!'ents.

of the City of Palo Alto, California, at a meeting thereof held on

General Description of Proposed Improvemenfs
California Avenue Area Beautif ica~ion Project

The im?roving of California Avenue from El Camino Real to the
Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way by the constructon of major
modifications to the fountain at El Camino Real, removal of all
existing privet trees, installation-of benches, flagpole lights, and
kiosks and replacement of the existing irrigation system, together
with the acquisition of such property and rights and the
construction of such improvements as may be auxiliary to any of the
above and necessary to ~-rry out the same.
