RESOLUTION NO. 4037
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
DECLARING ITS SUPPORT OF CITY AND COUNTY GOVERNMENT
WEEK
WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto daily fulfills the needs of
its residents by providing public protection, streets and highways,
municipally owned utilities, parks, libraries, cultural facilities
and other vital services; and
WHEREAS, City government can best serve its citizens by
applying local solutions to local problems, by remaining responsive,
modern, efficient, and by employing dedicated and capable public
servants; and
WHEREAS, the strength of any government stems from the under-
standing and support given it by the people; and
WHEREAS, the people's closest and most important contact
with government is with their local government; and
WHEREAS, it is the City's responsibility to make its citizens
aware of the structure, functions and performance of local govern-
ment; and
WHEREAS, special commemorative periods stimulate citizen
interest in local government, and this interest encourages full
citizen participation in government and facilitates better govern-
ment services to the people; and
WHEREAS, the Governor and the Legislature of the State of
California have proclaimed the week commencing October 8, 1967
as City and County Government Week;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
1. That the week commencing October 8, 1967 be designated
as City and County Government Week in the City of Palo Alto.

2. That the City of Palo Alto joins in observing City and
County Government Week.
3. That the residents of the City of Palo Alto be urged
to participate in appropriate programs, ceremonies and educa-
tional activities in observance of City and County Government
Week.
