HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 3974pr.r,n1TV RESOLUTION NO. 3974 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO ORDERING AND FIXING MAY 9, 1967 AS THE DATE FOR SPECIAL RECALL ELECTION PURSUANT TO SECTION 1 OF ARTICLE VI OF CHARTER WHEREAS, on March 22, 1967, eight separate petitions were filed with the City Clerk, each demanding an election of a successor to the Councilman named therein pursuant to the recall provisions of section 1 of Article VI of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, hereinafter for brevity called the Charter", and WHEREAS, pursuant to the Charter, the City Clerk caused to be examined and ascertained from the records of registration whether or not said petitions were signed by the requisite number of elec- tors entitled to vote, and WHEREAS, the City Clerk has submitted said petitions to the Council with her certificate dated April 3, 1967 attached to each stating that each such petition is sufficient as filed, and WHEREAS, the Charter provides that when any such petition so signed has been submitted to the Council, the Council shall there- upon order and fix a date for holding the said election not less than thirty days nor more than forty days from the date of the clerk's certificate to the Council that a sufficient petition has been filed, and WHEREAS, a General Municipal Election has been yet for May 9, 1167, NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows SECTION 1. Pursuant to the Charter, a special recall election is hereby ordered and fixed to be held in the City of Palo Alto on Tuesday, May 9, 1967, for the purpose of determining who shall complete the term of office of each of the eight incumbent Council- men named in the aforesaid petitions, five of whom constitute all • 1 of the Councilmen whose terms expire June 30, 1969, and three of who constitute all of the Councilmen whose terms expire June 30, 1971. SECTION 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to attune notice of said election to be published once in the PALO ALTO TINES, a newspaper of general circulation within the City of Palo Alto, and all editions thereof during the day of publication, said notice to be published without delay. The City Clerk shall publish all such other notices and do all such other things as may be required to conduct said election.
