HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 3971, ,. .. 1. i t. r1 .:! iiii RESOLUTION NO. 3971 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO SUPPORTING THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN ITS DESIRE TO EXTEND SKYLINE PARKWAY FROM SARATOGA GAP TO STATE ROUTE 129 WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto by its Reso- lution No. 3909, adopted July 18, 1966, requested the District Engineer, State Division of Highways, to initiate a study for the purpose of establishing Skyline Boulevard as an Official State Scenic Highway; and WHEREAS, said parkway has been designated to become a part of the National California Scenic Redwood Road and Trail System; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara, StateofCalifornia, by its officially adopted General Plan of Santa- Clara County shows the Skyline Parkway as extend - Lag along the crest of the Santa Cruz Mountains all the way to the Becker Pass Highway; and WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works, Transportation Agency, State of California, has published a booklet entitled, "The Scenic Route/ a Guide for the Designation of an Official _Scenic Highway" illustrating by photographic essay the potential of this route as a parkway; and WHEREAS, the whole of the Santa Cruz Mountain range is a public resource offering a variety of superlative scenery, and a wealthuaf_. recreational, opportunity; and WHEREAS, the State Parks Commission bas endorsed the con- cept of a Skyline Parkway through San Francisco City and County, San Mateo County and in Santa Clara County only as far south as. Saratoga Gap; and WHEREAS, the portion of the Skyline route south of Saratoga Gap to the Hecker Pass Highway is of particular importance to this region and is richly deserving of protection for use by the people of the State of California by being added to the Skyline Parkway. NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. That the Council of the City of Palo Alto does support the Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara in its desire to extend said parkway as requested in its resolutions adopted February 6, 1967, entitled "Resolution of the,Boardof Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara, State of California, Requesting the California State Parks Commission to Extend the Scope of Recommended Skyline Parkway" and "Resolution. of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa. Clara, State of California, relating to the Extension of Skyline Parkway." SECTION 2. That the State Legislators from this county be requested to introduce an amendment to section 35, subparagraph (a), of the Streets and Highways Code to read: "Route 129 to Route 92 via Summit Road and.Skyline Boulevard"; and that section 263 of the Streets and Highways Code relating to the State Scenic Highways System also be amended to reflect the change in section 35, and further that they urge its successful adoption at the 1967 session of the State Legislature. SECTION 3. That this Council does hereby urge the State Parks Commission to include in its recommendation to the -State 'Legislature the concept of the "Skyline Parkway" for California extending from Saratoga .Gap -in Santa tiara County southerly to State Route 129 in the vicinity of Chittenden Pass. SECTION 4. That a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the following: State Senators and Assembly- men•;of!Santo Clara County, Senator Randolph.Coll er, California • 1 Highway Commission, State Parks Commission, State Highway Engineer (Sacramento), Boards of Supervisors of Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and San Mateo Counties, State Trans;_ portation Administrator, each City in Santa Clara County, and District Engineer, District IV, Division of Highways (150 Oak Street, San Francisco).
