Home My WebLink AboutRESO 5167RESOLUTION NO. 5167 ORIGINAL RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO SUPPORTING THB-USE"OF LIVING CHRISTMAS TREES AND THE SUBSEQUENT PLANTING OF SUCH TREES IN THE PALO ALTO BICENTENNIAL REDWOOD GROVE OR OTHER SUITABLE PUBLIC AREA WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto has a deep and long-enduring interest in not only preserving, but also encouraging the proliferation of, trees to enhance the natural beauty of the. City of Palo Alto and the State of California as a whole; and WHEREAS, on November 11, 1973, the Council of the City of Palo Alto unanimously endorsed the establishment of the Palo Alto Bicentennial Redwood Grove as an addition to the Big Basin Park and urged the community to support said program; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION l. The Council hereby urges the residents and business persons of the City of Palo Alto who will be using Christmas trees during the coming holiday season to observe the holiday spirit in an environmentally enhancing way by.J2.urchasing living Christ.~~~ trees. SECTION 2. The Council further urges said residents and business persons, in cooperation with City staff, to have said living Christmas trees planted in the Palo Alto Bicentennial Redwood Grove or other suitable public area after the holiday season for the enjoyment of the public, now and in future generations. SECTION 3~ The Council finds that this project is categorically exempt from further.environmental assessment. SECTION 4. The Council hereby directs the City Clerk to forwara certified copies of this resolution to the Sempervirens Fund, the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce, t:he Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club, and the Peninsula Conservation Center.
