RESOLUTION NO. 5161
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL ANNEXATION
ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 4, 1975
WHEREAS, on November 4, 1975, a special annexation election
was duly held in the area known as "Barron Park,w an unincorporated
portion of the County of Santa Clara, State of California, in the
manner prescribed by law; and
WHEREAS, it appears to the City Council, and the City Council
finds, that the notice of election was regularly qiven, that the
voting precincts were properly established, that election officers
were appointed and election· supplies furnished, and that in all
respects the.election was held and conducted and the votes cast,
received, and canvassed, and the returns made and declared in the
time, form, and manner prescribed by law; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palo Alto met at
the Council Chambers on the 10th day of November, 1975, its next
regular meeting held at least three days after the election to
canvass the returns of' the special annexation· election and, upon
canvassing the returns, find~ that the.whole number of votes cast,
the measured voted upon, tfre number of votes given at each pre-
cinct for and against the measure, and the number of votes given
in the area proposed to be annexed for and against the measure
all are set forth in Exhibit A attached hereto and made a part
hereof by this.reference as though fully set forth herein;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. The Council finds and declares that:
(a) The special annexation election was held and con-
ducted on November 4, 1975, in the time, form, and manner as
prescribed by law.
(b) There were two (2) voting precincts established
for the purpose of holding the election, consistinq of a consoli-
dation of_ regular electio~ precincts as_ set forth in Exh~it A.
(c) There were sixty-two (62) absentee voter ballots
given out1 of.this total, the number of absentee voter b&llots
which had· been returned as either voted ballots or surrendered
ballots ·to the City Clerk and the n.umber of outstanding absentee
voter ballots are as set forth in BXhibit A~
(d) The whole-number of votes cast in the territory,
the meas~re voted o.~~ and the number of votes given at each .pre-
cinct for and against the measure are as.set forth in Exhibit A.

SECTION 3. A majority of the votes cast were in favor of
annexation, and the measure was approved.
SECTI.OH _4. The Council finds that none of the provisions
of this resolution will have a significant adverse environmental
impact.

REGARDING FOOTBALL TEAMS SUPPORTED WITH TAXPAYERS'
FUNDS, Al~D PEST CONTROL
'WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palo Alto wishes
to recognize the existence of the University of California and
to acknowledge the event on November 22, 1975, commonly known
as The Big Game; md
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palo Alto wishes
to maintain scrupulous impartiality in the matter; and
WHER&\S, the maintenance of a football team is a questionable
use of taxpayers' funds, which funds are .derived in part from
taxes paid by the cit.izens of Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, certain pests, including bears, are in need of
control;
NOW. THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Palo Alto
does RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. The week of November 16 through November 22,
1975,. hereby ls proclaimed to be:
BIG GAME WEEK
SECTION 2. · The Palo Alto City Council is constrained to oppose
on RoViiDber 22,·1975, the football team of any large california
educational institution which is supported and maintained, or bussed,
with t$Xpayers' funds, and urges the Stanford football team to do
l~ewf.se. -

SECTION l. The Palo Alto City Council ~ges the local coll~e
football team to use-all its efforts to dispose· of mischievous
and destructive pests. including, but not limited to, bears.
