HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 5074• • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 5074 RES')L'..1TION OF 'rliE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO ru:QuES1'ING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF SANTA CLAPA COUN'l'Y TO PROVIDE COUN'rY FUNDING FOR E}IBRGENCY CQ11MUNICi\TIONS AND DISPATCH SERVICE$ OPERA'l'ED BY THE CI~Y OF PALO ALTO WHEREAS, the County of Santa Clara has offered to provide county operated emergency communications dnd dispatch services to the City of Palo Alto and the other cities within the County at· no direct cost to the cities; and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto already has a modern and efficient communications facility, which provides not only emergency communications but conununications for utility services and animal control, and has plans to continue to upgra_de the facility as technology develops; and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto is conunitted to providing the best possible emergency communications and dispatch services at the least cost, whether independently or in a joint endeavor with other cities; and WHEREAS, the County now is providing county operated emer- gency cornmunicatiJns and dispatch services to the City of San Jose at no cost; and WHEREAS, if consolidated communications are expanded and provided by the County to other cities and paid for out of county property tax and the City of Palu Alto chooses not to accept such service, the citizens of Palo Alto, in effect, pay taxes to support two communications systems1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Palo Alto request the ooard of Supervisors of Santa Clara County to provide county funding for City of Palo Alto operated emergency communi- cations and dispatch services on the same basis as the county funding which supports the county operated City of San Jose emergency communications and dispatch system~ and BE IT FUR'I'HER RESOLVED that in return for this fundiilg, the City of Palo Alto will conform to U.e minimum communications performance standarda to be established jointly by the County and the City: and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Palo Alto desires to analyze the feasibility of joining with neighboring juris- dictions to provide combined emergency communications and dispatch services, controlled and operated by the cities; and BE -IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County for its consideration and response.
