HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 5065• ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 5065 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING RESOLUTION 4291 CHANGING THE CITYWIDE STOP INTERSECTION SYSTEM AND MAP The Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. The additions and modifications to the exist- ing stop sign system as set forth in EXHIBIT B, consisting of a one-page document entitled, "Stop Sign System Additions and/or Modifications" and a map entitled "Proposed Modifica- tior;:s to Stop Intersection System -February, 1975," which are attached hereto and by refer~nce made a part hereof, are hereby adopted. SECTION 2. The map which was attached to Resolution 4291 as EXHIBIT A entitled "Stop Intersection System," which is attached hereto as EXHIBIT A and by reference made a part hereof, is hereby amended accordingly. EXH1BIT ""B" STOP SIGN SYSTEi.1 ADDITIONS AND/OR MODIFICATIONS 4.;ewell / Edgewoof_ Newell/Dana Wewell/Parkinson Residents along .iewell Road have reported reckless driving and speeding prevalent on Newell Road. The residents believe that the instalJation of 4-way stop intersections at the Newell/Edgewood, Newell/Dana, ard Newell/Parkinson inter- sections will ameliorate the problems, if not resolve them entirely. The three 4-way stop intersection locations were selected in cooperation with Newell Road residents for the following reasons: Newell/Edgewood: Close to bridge, suitable distance fr . .Jtll the Newell/Dana intersection. Newell/Dana: School crossing, visibility problems. Newell/Parkinson: Heavy pedestrian crossillg movements to and from the Library and Rinconada Park. easier vehicular ingress and egress from the Library drive•-1ay, suitable distances from Dnbarcadero Road and Channing Avenue. Although the three stop intersections do net appeat to be necessary solely on the basis of recorded accident history and/or for reason of vehicular right- of-~ay assignment, the staff believes that such new stop intersections are supportable on a t~ial basis for a six month period; as suggested;oy Council on January 6, 1975.
