HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 5053' ' I \ • • ORIGINAL RESOLUTION No·. 5053 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO MEMORIALIZING THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE TO ENACT LEGISLATION REGULATING THE PRACTICE OF MASSAGE AND THE EDUCATION OF MASSAGE PRACTITIONERS WHEREAS, California recently has experienced a statewide proliferation of establishments offering massage services; and WHEREAS, to provide for the health, saf.ety and welfare of massage establishment patrons numerous cities and counties within the State i)f California have established requirements, qualifications, standards, licensing procedure and permitted or prohibited activities governing the practice of massage; and WHEREAS, uniform State regulation of the many massage establish- ments and ·massage practitioners located thoughout Califor:ii6·would benefit local governDiental entities as well as provide for equal regulation and protection of all massagP. establishments and massage practitioners in the State; and ·WHEREAS~ appropriate high standards should be set for institutions offering courses in the practice of massage as well as for instructors therein; NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does REliOLVE as follows: "' SECTION 1. The City Council hereby memorializes the California legisll\ture to pass legislation which would establish appropriate requirements, qualifications, standards, licensing procedure and permitted or prohibited activities governing the practice of massage, to similarly establish appropriate high-standards, requirements for, and content and licensing of, co'U%'.ses of instruction to prepare and qualify individuals t"'. practi~e the ar.t of massage, and to provide for appropriate qualificatioris, standards, requirements for, and licensing of, instructors in institutions offering such courses of instruction. SECTION 2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this resolution to. every member of the California Legislature, 1975 Session, and to the Governor of the State of Cali- fornia.
