RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
COM.11.iENDING THE 1974 STANFORD.UNIVERSITY.FOOTBALL
TEAM FOR ITS BIG GAME .VICTORY.OVER THE.UNIVERSITY
OF .CALIFOR..~IA
WHEREAS, t.~e Cardinals from Stanford were .scheduled .to do
battle with the University of California Golden Bears.at Me.~orial
Stadium, Berkeley, on November 23, 1974; and
WHEREAS, ·despite ominous reports by members .of the various
sports media prognosticating a Golden Bear romp, the Stanford
eleven approached the contest with courageous optimism; and
WHEREAS, the Stanford Cardinais overcame .the heroics of
a tough Golden Bear team, some· .early game .uncertainty' and the
stadium clock, all to emerge· .victorious, 22-20, .as the last second
ticked away1
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council .of .the City of Palo Alto does
RESO!.VE as follows:
SECTION l. The City -Council, .on· .behalf .of .all .of the
people of fhe City of Palo-.Alto,. .hereby heartily commends the
1974 STANFORD UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL TEAM,. JACR CHRISTIANSEN,. and
the Assistant Coaches, . for winning the 197 4 Big Game with the
University of California •
. SECTION 23 The City. Clerk is. hereby authorized and
directed to forward-~ copy.of this .resoluti~n.to.each-merober
of the 197 4 Stanford University footba1.1· team who· .requests
a copy hereof, Coach JACK.CHRlSTrANSEN, to each.of his
assistant coaches, to RICHARD W., LYMAN, .President.of Stanford
