RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING SCHEDULES R-1, R-1-FA, R~2, R-3, AND R-4
OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO UTILITIES RATES AND CHARGES
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as fol-
lows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to Section 12 .. 20.0.lO .of the Palo.Alto.
Municipal Code, Schedules R-1, R-1-FA, R-2, R-3 and R-4 (Domestic
Refuse Collection, Refuse Collectionr.Commercial Refuse Collection-
Standard 32-Gallon Containers, Commercial Refuse· Collection-Special.-
Containers, Commercial Refuse.Collect:ion, Detachable Containers
and Special Refuse Collection) of the.Palo-Alto Utilities Rates _
and Charges are hereby amended to .read as .. proposed in Sheets.
127e, 128e, 128 .. 2, .129e, 130.lc, lJ0·.20-, and· 131c attached
hereto.·
SECTION 2. The foreg-oin9_chan9es.shall'.be~. effective at

An occupied dwelling is defined as any house, cottage, flat, duplex
unit, having kitchen, bath, and sleeping facilities, and to which gas
or electric service is being rendered.
** A duplex unit is defined as any dwelling in a building containing
two single-family dwellings.

A $1.20 service charge will be made if return call is necessary in
order to pick up containers previously missed by reason of locked
gate, or other reasons which prevented service •

This schedule applies to all refuse collection service.
TERRITORY:
Within the incorporated limits of the City of Palo Alto and on land
owned or leased by the City, located in Service Area 2.
RATES:
SERVICE AREA 2:
Minimum Monthly Charge . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $3.30
Minimum charge provides for the collection of refuse from two
32-gallon containers, one collection per week. Containers must
be located within 150 feet of public street or road.
Each additional 32-gallon container, per month •• $1.20
SPECIAL C<H>ITIONS:
1. The cont~actor will detet"llline the charge for service where refuse
containers are located more than 150 feet from a public street or
road or for refuse which requires special handling.
2. The City Engineer will determine the charges when there is a
disagreement between the customer and contractor.

COMMERCIAL REFUSE COLLECTION
STANDARD 32-GALLON CONTAINERS
APPLICABILITY:
* This. schedule applies to all occupied establishments other than
domestic dwellings as required by Cit} Ordinance.
TERRITORY:
RATE:
Within the incorporated limits of the City of Palo Alto and on land
owned or leased. by the City of Palo Alto located in Service Area 1.

The minimum charge is based upon the collection of refuse from ~
32-gallon standard containers.
The monthly charge for services not shown on the following schedule of
rates will be determined by the Contractor. In the event that the
customer and Contractor cannot agree upon the charge, the City Engineer
shall determine a charge that he considers to be just and reasonable
and the Contractor, in such event, shall provide the collection service
at or below the charge determined by the City Engineer. The charge will
be based upon the average amount of refuse collected from the establish-
ment in containers of 32-gallon capacity.

TERRITORY:
Within the incorporated limits of the City of Palo Alto and on land
owned or leased by the City located in Servic~ Area 1.
RATES:
The monthly charge for services not shown on the following schedule
of rates will be determined by the Contractor. In the event that the
customer and Contractor cannot agree upon the charge, the City Engineer

specific request of an owner or tenant of premises for the collection
of refuse that could not be removed by the regular collection service
because of the qudntity or quality of the refuse. Building materials
and dirt are excluded from this service •.

SPECIAL PROVISION:
Rates for the special collection of refuse in excess of five (5)
cubic yards will be established b~'the Contractor.
Charges made under this schedule shall be added "to the regular
monthly utilities bill of the person receiviqg the service and
payment thereof will be subject· to Rule No. 8 and Rule No. 10
of the Utilities Rules and Regulations.
