RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
MAKING APPLICATION TO THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY LOCAL
AGENCY FORMA~ION COMMISSION FOR THE DETACHMENT OF
TERRITORY FROM BARRON PARK FIRE DISTRICT
WHEREAS, in 1969 the City of Palo Alto annexed the territory
hereinafter described but detachment proceedings were not under-
taken as provided in the Fire Protection District Law of 1961
(Part 2.7 (commencing with Section 13801), Div. XII, of the
Health and Safety Code); and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto now desires
to initiate proceedings to detach such territory pursuant to
the District Reorganization Act of 1965 (Div. 1 (conunencing with
Section 56000), Title 6, of the Government Code);
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Palo Alto as follows:
SECTION 1. That this is an application for the detachment
of territory pursuant to the District Reorganization Act of
1965.
SECTION 2. That the Santa Clara County Local Agency
Formation Commission (LAFCO) is requested to approve and cause
the completion of the detachment of territory, the exterior
boundaries of which are described in the attached Exhibit Ar
made a part hereof by this reference, from the Barron Park Fire
District.
SECTION 3. That in support of this application the Council
of the City of Palo Alto finds and declares as follows:
a. That the territory proposed to be detached is unin-
habited.
b. That the reasons for the detachment are that the
territory described in Exhibit A was annexed to the
City of Palo Alto in an annexation proceeding known
as the El Camino-Maybell Annexation, the City of
Palo Alto has assumed responsibility for fire service
in such territory, and assessments need no longer
be collected for the Barron Park Fire District.
c. That the following counties, cities, or districts
are affected by this proposal: Barron Park Fire
District, the County of Santa Clara, and the City
of Palo Alto.
d. That the proposed detachment shall be effective on
the date of filing of the Certificate of Completion
with the Secretary of State.
SECTION 4. That the Santa Clara County Local Agency
Formation Commission (LAFCO) find that all of the owners of
land within such territory have given their written consent to
the proposed detachment as shown by those letters marked
Exhibit B, attached and made a part hereof by this reference,

and that LAFCO approve this application of the City of Palo Alto
without notice or hearing and authorize the Board of Directors
of the Barron Park Fire District to detach such territory without
notice or hearing, pursuant to Government Code Sections 56261
and 56~22.
SECTION 5. That the City Clerk is directed to file a
certified copy of this resolution with the Executive Officer
of Santa Clara County Local Agency Formation Commission.
SECTION 6. That the Council finds that the passage of this
resolution will have no significant environmental effect.

EL CAMINO -MAYBELL DETACHMENT FROM
BARRON PARK FIRE DISTRICT
All that certain real property situated in the County of Santa
Clara, State of California, and bounded by the following
described line:
Beginning at the point of intersection of the northeasterly ling of
El Camino Real (100 feet wide) with the northeasterly prolongation of
the southeasterly line of Maybell Avenue (40 feet wide), said point of
intersection being also an angle point in the corporate limjts line
of the City of Palo Alto;
Thence, along said southeasterly line of Maybell Avenue, S 2if' 39 1 11 11 w
southwesterly along said 450.42 feet, to a point of intersection thereof
with the southeasterly prolongation of the southwesterly line of lot 3,
Maybell Tract, a map of which was recorded June 19, 1905; in Book 11 K11
of Maps, at pages 88 and 89, Records of said County;
Thence, H 60 °26 1 49 W 415.46 feet along said southeasterly prolongation
and the southwesterly line of Lots 3 and 2 of said Maybell Tract to
the southwesterly corner of said lot 2;
Thence northeasterly H 29l 33 1 l l 11E 677. 17 feet a 1 ong the northwesterly
line of said Lot 2 to a point of intersection thereof with the
northeasterly line of El Camino Real, said line being also the corporate
limits line of the City of Palo Alto;
Thence, southeasterly S 31° 49 1 19E 473.311 feet along said corporate
limits line to the point of beginning, containing 5.53 acres, more or
less.

Park Fi~e District. Since your property was annexed in 1969, the City Fire Depart-
ment has provided service to you and that has eliminated the need for service from
the Fire District.
Normally, the detachment procedure is part of the annexation. Unfortunately, in
vour case, with the lengthy annexation proceeding> property owners and City and
i.;ounty officials all overlooked the need to cietach the property.
We are now initiating steps to detach your property and that of your neighbors from
the Barron Park Fire District pursuant to the detachment procedures set forth in
~he California Government Code. Detachment will eliminate taxes levied against
your property for support of the Fire District. The detachment procedure can be
completed easily and quickly if the property owners consent to the detachment and
the proceedings are undertaken.
