RESOLUTION NO. 4965
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD
JUNE 4, 1974 TO CONSIDER MEASURE B AMENDING THE CHARTER
OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO TO PROVIDE FOR RENT CONTROL
WHEREAS, on the 21st day of March, 1974, the Council of
the City of Palo Alto, County of Santa Clara, State of California,
by Resolution No. 4906, duly passed and published, did call a
special election to be held in said city and to be consolidated
with the direct primary election of June 4, 1974, for the purpose
of submitting to the qualified voters of said city the following
initiative measure, to wit:

MEASURE B
Shall the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, California,
be amended to add Article XI thereto, to control
certain residential rents in the City of Palo Alto?
WHEREAS, due and legal notice of said special election was
given as required by law and by said resolution; and
WHEREAS, on the 4th day of June, 1974, at the hour of 7:00
A.M. of said day the polls were duly and regularly opened for
said special election in said city and said polls were continu-
ously kept open for said purpose from the time they were so
opened Wltil 8:00 P.M. of said day and during said hours of said
4th day of JWle, 1974, a special election was held in said City
of Palo Alto on said measure and in accordance with said
resolution1 and
WHEREAS, immediately thereafter said special election
was regularly and duly canvassed by the Registrar of Voters
pursuant to authority given .him by the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Santa Clara by and a3 provided in said Resolution
No. 4906 and the results of said special initiative election were
duly declared as follows:
Total qualified voters casting
ballots (including absentee ballots)
Votes CG-~ in favor of Measure B
Votes cast against Measure B

NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. ._.That a special election was duly and regularly
callea and held 1n all things according to Resolution No. 4906
of said City of Palo Alto, duly adopted for the object and
purpose therein specified and according to the laws of the
State of California,

SECTION 2, That a majority of the qualified voters voti~g
in said special election having cast their ballots "Against
the Charter Amendment" as that wording is contained in said
Measure B, said measure is hereby declared to have been defeated
and have no force and,effect
The above and foregoing resolution was duly and regularly
introduced and passed at a regular meeting of the Council of
the City of Palo alto on Monday, the 22nd day of July, 1974, by
the following vote:
AYES: Beahrs, Berwald, Clay, Comstock, Henderson, Norton, Pearson, Rosenbaum
NOES: None
ABSENT: Sher

I, George A. Mann, Registrar of Voters and Recorder
of the County of Santa Clara, State of California, do
hereby certify that at the Di~ect Primary Election held
on Tuesday, June 4, 1974 Charter Amendment Measure B was
submitted to voters in the City of Palo Alto;
That the official canvass of the returns of said
election was conducted by the off ice ·:>f the Registrar of
Voters and the results entered on the records of the
Santa Clara county Board of Supervisors. on June 25, 1974;
and
That hereto attached is a full, true and correct
statement of the votes cast for and against said Measure.
