HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESO 4929.. ··• ORL.31( lAL RESOLUTION NO. 4929 TtESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO REAFFIRMING ITS FAIR HOUSING GOALS WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto has demonstrated its concern that the sale and rental of housing in the community should be equally available to all individuals regardless of their race, religion, color, ancestry, physical handicaps, or other factor unrelated to their worth as human beings and their ability to be good neighbors; and WHEREAS, the United States Constitution and the laws of the United States of America and the State of California make housing discriminati~n based upon race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, physical handicap, and any other arbitrary factor illegal; and WHEREAS, despite progress act\eved in the past by citizens of goodwill, many individuals continue to be the vict.i.ms of dis- criminatory practices in the sale and rental of housing within the City1 and WHEREAS, tjie City of Palo Alto desires to promote equal opportunity in housing throughout the community: NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION l. The Council of the City of Palo Alto affirms its commitment to fair housing for all members of the community. SECTION 2. The Council of the City of Palo Alto commends those sellers and real estate agents who, as a matter of policy and practice, refuse to offer for sale or rental or accept listings for sale or rental, property where any discriminating racial con- dition is placed on the sale thereof • .. 1 - • • SECTION 3. The Council of the City of Palo Alto encourages all persons involved in the sale or rental of housing within the City of Palo Alto to promote public awareness of fair housinq laws and to join together to eliminate any vestiges of illegal or arbitrary discrimination in the conununity.
