OR~~INAL RESOLUTION NO. 4906 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR JUNE 4, 1974, AND REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA TO CONSOLIDATE SAID SPECIAL ELECTION WITH THE DIRECT PRIMARY ELECTION WHEREAS, on March S, 1974, a petition was filed with the City Clerk requesting that Ordinance No. 2764, a "charter amendment to control certain residential rents in Palo Alto" be submitted to a vote of the electors pursuant to the Con- stitution and laws of the State of California: and WHEREAS, said petition contains valid signatures in excess of the requirement of 3,497 signatures, determined as provided in the Government Code of the State of California1 NOW, THEREFORE, the Cowtcil of the City of Palo Alto does RESOLVE as follows: SECTION 1. A special election is hereby called to be held in the City of Palo Alto on Tuesday, June 4, 1974, at which election the following proposition shall be submitted to the electorate of said city, to wit: Proposition Shall the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, California, be amended to add Article XI tliereto, to control cer- tain residential rents in the City of Palo Alto?· For the charter amendment Against the charter amendment SECTION 2. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara is hereby requested to order the consolidation of $aid special election with the State of California direct primary election to be held on June 4, 1974, insofar as the City of Palo Alto is concerned and to provide f~ther that within the territory affected by said order of consolidation, to witz The City of I • Palo Alto, the election precincts, polling places-and voting booths shall be the same and there shall be only one set of election officers in each of said precincts and only one form of ballot shall be used. SECTION 3. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa ' Clara is hereby further authorized and requested to canvass the returns of said election with respect to the City of Palo Alto proposition and to certify such canvass of the votes cast to this Council.' SECTION 4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to cause notice of said election to be published once in the PALO ALTO TIMES, on April S, 1974, a newspaper of general circulation within the City of Palo Alto, and all editions thereof during the day of publication. The City Clerk shall publish all such other notices and do all such other things as may be required to submit said proposition to said electors at said election. SECTION 5. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to certify to the adoption of this resolution and to submit a copy thereof so certified to the Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara and to the Registrar of Voters of the County of Santa Clara.
