RESOLUTION NO. 4871
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF
AMERICA PROGRAM TO OUR YOUTH AND URGING OBSERVANCE
OF THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY AS THE "ANNIVERSARY MONTH 11
OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
WHEREAS, we honor the organizations and citizens for their
dedication to our youth through the program of the Boy Scouts
of America; and
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America, the nation's largest
youth organization, is a partner with over 100,000 other organi-
zations offering a program of character development, citizenship
training, and mental and physical fitness; and
WHEREAS, the religious institutions of our nation are supported
by the attendance of Scouts, Cub Scouts and Explorers on "SCOUT
SUNDAY," February 10th; and
WHEREAS, through Scouting more than 1.5 million adults now
give dedicated volunteer service to 4.5 million boys and young
adults who are an important contribution to our nation's -...:uture;
and
WHEREAS, the Stanford Area Council, Boy Scouts of America,
has contributed materially to the development and growth of this
community in the past and offers unparalleled opportunities for
the futur~ through BOYPOWER '76, a long-range plan to deeply in-
volve in Scouting a representative one-third of all American boys
and to make Scouting more relevant to the needs and concerns of
today's youth;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:

SECTION l, The City Council, in recognition of their
achievements, do hereby especially reco9nize on behalf of all of
the people of the City of Palo Alto, the chartered partner or-
ganizations in our community who, because of their interest and
leadership and dedication, are making it possible for boys to
have Scouting by sponsoring units; and also especially recognize
the Cubmasters, Scoutmasters and Explorer_Advisors for. their
outstanding dedication to the boys and young adults in our
community,
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby urges all citizens,
public and private institutions, and business and industrial
organizations to join in observance of the month of February
as "ANNIVERSARY MONTH" of THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA.
SECTION 3~ The City Clerk is authorized and directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to the Stanford Area Council
of the Boy Scouts of Amerioac
