EXPRESSING APPRECIATION FOR OUTSTANDING PUBLIC
SERVICE TO MARC BERMAN AS COUNCIL MEMBER
WHEREAS,Marc Berman served as a Palo Alto City Council Member from January 2013
through December 2016; and
WHEREAS, Marc served on the Infrastructure Blue Ribbon Commission (IBRC), the Council
Infrastructure Committee, and the Campaign Committee for Yes on Measure B to raise the funds
necessary to fully fund $150 million Infrastructure Improvement Plan; and
WHEREAS, Marc worked closely with the environmental and faith-based communities and
was the lead author of the Colleagues Memo and Resolution demanding that CalPERS divest from
fossil fuel companies; and
WHEREAS,during his time on the City Council, Marc chaired the Finance Committee in 2014
and worked with the Office of Management and Budget to create the Budget in Brief, which
transparency and public awareness of how their money is spent; and
WHEREAS,Marc opposed the vehicle habitation ban and made the motion to repeal the ban a
year later; and
WHEREAS, throughout his service, Marc has been a consistent advocate for more housing,
bringing community members together to promote and encourage creative solutions to our housing
shortfall; and
WHEREAS,Marc co-authored Colleagues emos to raise the minimum wage in Palo Alto
and to establish Palo Alto's business registry, so we could begin collecting real data to assist Council
with making informed decisions about parking, transportation, and development in the future; and
WHEREAS,Marc has been a strong advocate of Palo Alto's sustainability and climate action
efforts, including co-authoring a Colleagues emo to encourage switching from natural gas
appliances to appliances that use our carbon-neutral electricity, consistently defending and
supporting policies that promote local renewable energy generation, and finding creative solutions to
promote more residential solar projects under Palo Alto's Net Energy Metering cap; and
WHEREAS, leadership on the City Council exemplified service to the community,
with contributions that will be of lasting value to the City of Palo Alto.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby
commends the outstanding public service of Marc Berman, gratefully records both its appreciation,
and the appreciation of the citizens and businesses of this community, for his meritorious service and
commitment as a Palo Alto Council Member and wishes him luck as he serves as Assemblymember th Assembly District.
