RESOLUTION NO. 7474
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AUTHORIZING THE USE OF CREDIT CARDS AS A MEDIUM OF
PAYMENT FOR ANY FEE, CHARGE OR TAX DUE THE CITY
AND AUTHORIZING THE IMPOSITION OF A FEE FOR THE
USE OF A CREDIT CARD IN PAYMENT OF ANY SUCH FEE,
CHARGE OR TAX
WHEREAS, existing law permits a chartered city to accept
the use of credit cards in payment of fees, charges, and taxes (but
not assessments) due the City of Palo Alto, provided the City
Council approves of this medium of payment; and
WHEREAS, existing law further permits a chartered city to
impose a fee for the use of a credit card, provided such fee does
not exceed the costs incurred by a chartered city in providing for
payment by credit card;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council hereby approves and authorizes
the use of a credit card as a medium of payment for the payment of
any fee, charge, or tax, including, but not limited to, a fee for
a permit or a license, apenalty or an interest charge, or a fine,
due the City of Palo Alto.
SECTION 2. The City Council further approves and
authorizes the City Manager or her designee to establish a fee to
be set forth in the "municipal fee schedule" and the utility rates
and charges for the use of a credit card in payment of any fee,
charge, or tax due the City of Palo Alto. Such fee shall not
exceed the costs, including, but not limited to, charges assessed
by any financial institution acting as a credit card issuer, and
equipment costs, incurred by the City of Palo Alto in providing for
payment by credit card.
SECTION 3. The City Council finds that the action hereby
approved does not constitute a project under the California
Environmental Quality Act.
