RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO KATHY TORGERSEN
FOR OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE
AS A MEMBER OF THE PALO ALTO CENTENNIAL 1994 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
WHEREAS, Kathy Torgersen has been a member of the Palo
Alto Centennial 1994 Board of Directors since 1992; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Torgersen was the Chair of the April 16,
1994, Birthday Celebration, the high point of the Centennial year;
and
WHEREAS, Kathy Torgersen is a volunteer extraordinaire
and a star in Palo Alto's crown; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Torgersen was a creative leader of the
tremendously successful Centennial Birthday Celebration; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Torgersen involved hundreds of volunteers
in a myriad of events and original productions; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Torgersen attracted major underwriting by
Midpeninsula businesses and high-tech firms; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Torgersen oversaw this production of the
century with diplomacy, humor, goodwill, and grace; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Torgersen's imaginative and avant-garde
spirit, along with the Board of Directors, called forth "Conduits,"
which turned out to be the first cyberflop of the century witnessed
by some 2,000 persons the night of April 16, 1994, and now 4,567
claim to have been in attendance for this historic event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
City of Palo Alto hereby gratefully records and extends special
thanks and monumental appreciation for Kathy Torgersen's
unparalleled volunteer duty, in addition to her generous support of
the Centennial, and offers Kathy Torgersen grateful thanks for her
part in making Palo Alto's Centennial Year a smashing success.
